Normally a sign that a new battery is needed..... but yours is not old..... does it spin over quick enough? is the alternator belt tight? is the alternator a good one..??

hi , i phoned my local subaru dealer and they asked if iv done short runs lately which i have within the last week or two. the longest being 10 miles there and 10 back. he stated the short runs are the problem and it needs along run.

does this sound about right?

short runs will flatten the battery as it takes a lot of power to start the car and then with the stereo, heater, etc that also drains it.
you need a longer run every now and then to recharge the battery cells

There is also a rechargeable battery in the alarm siren so that it can keep sounding if all the wires are cut. This also charges from the car's alternator. But these batteries also have a best before date (from about 5 years) so it could be that it's these batteries that are starting to lose their ability to hold charge in the same way as your main car battery did a few months ago. A longer journey will also give this one a good charge. When it starts chirping away to itself at random (always seems to be 04:00am ) then that's the time to worry.

thanx for the replies. WELL, i pulled the car out of the garage (after it had chirped when i turned the key) got ready for a long trip and it wouldnt start!!!!!
so i had to get subaru assistance again. they tested the battery and im sure he said it had 80amps?? in it. once he started it and left it for 20- mins it had 380 (dont quote me on figures tho)
he suggested either cold starts or something is having a surge and draining it. and suggested once a week i run it for 20 mins if i cant go on journey. if i still get a problem then its something other than the battery
very annoying really!!
