Default MY02 STi replacement H1 question

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the best bulbs would be to use in a STi bugeye (2002). My lights are poor to say the least and do not give me any distance what so every.

I think the bugeye STi lamps have a odd reflector so want something that would work well with that without damaging the reflector or shorting out the wires.

I want a bulb that gives distance and brightness but not over whelming for other road users. That Xenon style with the blue or super white tint.

I had the Phillips GT150's on my WRX and thought they were great but I am behind the times so looking for a new bread of bulb to do the trick in the STi.

Please can anyone help me who have changed there bugeye bulbs. I don't want to HID's at this stage.

Steve

Don't know about the bugeye but I fitted Osram Silverstar in my blobeye and saw a big improvement. £11.00 a pair delivered from here:

Halfords super brilliance bulbs in the gold coloured boxes, BOGOF at the moment, and they are made to top spec by GE, 50% uprated.

Not sure, I've read recently, but I can't remember where, about a new breed of "super halogen" bulbs. Maybe these are they?

Not up to HID, of course, but worlds cheaper and very good, apparently. I reckon it was Osram I read about too.

Hi Steve.....

I have a 2002 Sti as well....

I used the Phillips vsion plus +50% ones but have upgraded to the HID route....

see here https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...installed.html

Massive improvement and is obviously the way to go if you can... takes about 30-40 mins to fit

Cheers Alcazar on the reply. I have never used OSRAM before but they look pretty good.

Hi Andy, nice looking bugeye mate.
Did you have any before and after photos at all? I can't really go the HID route at the mo as my misses will kill me. I've just bought a new exhaust system from RCM so she will go spare. I'm in the dog house about the noise levels of it too at present.
I'm speaking with Fulham71 (Paul) about what bulbs he has on offer. I think he has the Phillips bulbs? I had the GT150's before with the blue vision side lights (w5w) and to be honest they performed very well for my needs. But the technology of bulbs move on so looking to see what else there is.

One question Andy. Is that a Silvertec bulb on the front clusters? Was the a orange lene to remove on the STi or was it just the Orange bulb you removed?

I'm wondering it its worth going the full hog and replace all bulbs.
H1
W5W sides
HB3
and all indicators?

Sorry for all the questions again.

Hi Steve....

The blue indicator bulbs are made by Osram an are direct replacements for your old orange ones, there is no orange at all in the prodrive headlamps....

Thanks Andy.

I'm meeting up with Paul to see what bulbs would suit my driving best. As long as I can get more light for the winter I'll be a happy man.

This may seem like a silly question but. Are all STi bugeye lamps prodrive versions?

Steve, yes unless a JDM import or after-market or Prodrive units added later.

P.S. Driving lamps in place of fogs is a good move....

A decent HID kit is an excellent upgrade.

I gave up with uprated bulbs - they seemed not to last as long as normal bulbs.

£79 in the GB and they last far, far longer than normal bulbs and provide much more light.

Had them in mine for a year and they work a treat
