Default Air con not working...

Hi all,

The air/con isn't working on my '98 type R.

Believed that it just needed re-gassing. I just had this done and it re-gassed without a problem but still won't turn on.

The lights on the console light up when flicked on, but air is not icey cold.

We were able to turn then pump on using a circuit tester but only came on when we pressed the tester switch... the guy who re-filled it thinks there may be a relay switch or similar that needs to be replaced or reset to get it to come on....

Any ideas?

Many thanks
Ross

Had a similare problem, that when the you depress teh a/c switch inside teh a/c pump won't switch. All I did was change the switch that is found on the right hand side of the intercooler.
If you need help locating it I can send you a photo.

check the fusees and relays underbonnet , specially for the air con fan , 5 fins . air con will not start if fan will not run.
i think the switch ryn is on about is screwed into the dryer reciever, this is the low pressure switch.
put a multimeter over that it should be closed circuit under pressure.

There used to be a Denso make relay on the bulkhead on the drivers side that can cause problems IIRC

Thanks chaps..

I've checked all the fuses and they seem fine.

Ryn, I'm pretty sure I know what switch you mean... I take it you can get new ones from a subaru dealers or breakers?

If you have a pic though, that would be doubly helpful!

Thanks again!

I have the same problem with mine, had it regassed and still does not work, my air con failed when I changed the water rad (end temporarily unplugged the fans in the process). Which relays/fuses should I look for to see if any are blown? If not then where would I find the low pressure switch?
thanks

fuses and relays are in box under bonnet above battery.
switch is on drier /filter reciever , this is the bottle shaped ally thing with a small glass window on. just follow pipe work from compressor back toward passenger bulkhead.
i have a couple of drier recievers with switches if needed!
