Hi, i was wondering if anybody could please help me iam going to buy some sti rear lights for my classic scoob was wondering are they a straight fit and do i have to sort out a new fog light. Also thy are coming from scoobyworld has anyone here dealt with these guys before. Sorry if this question has been asked before but iam new here and any help would be aprechated. saloon or wagon ?

saloon is easy , wagon is hard

you need an 8mm spanner or socket , get behind the boot lining and locate the 5 studs . obviously undo them , they're also going to be caked in sealant , black mastic , , what i do is gently knock the studs carefully with a hammer then jiggle and wiggle the light units , you should start to hear the mastic tearing , then obviously remove them , , oh, make sure you've unplugged the lights first . . then phillips screwdriver to remove the metal bit under the lights, 3 screws , fit onto new STi lights then do the opposite of above , make sure you get a good seal or they WILL leak

as for the fog light , , you have 2 options

1) rewire the reverse light into the fog light switch and put a red bulb in the holder
2) fit a new one

they are pretty good if they have them in stock which i'd imagine they would

you'll be fine , just remember where everything goes and don't break any studs

i've done 5 or 6 saloons now , 45 minute job for both


just done my wagon . bought it as a runaround but fitted the STi rears

took me 2 1/2 hours , absolute nightmare, had to remove so much . and had 1 screw left over at the end lol

Cars looking good mate, tho iam still unsure what to do about the fog light may just rewire the reverse light like you said dont really want a little light on my bumper . My car is a saloon so hopefully it will be easier to do than a wagon

 

Exactly like that,done mine a few weeks ago,but deffo make sure you seal them good,if you dont,you might aswell throw a few goldfishes in the boot and lights.

 

but do i need a reverse light come mot time argghhh iam being thick sorry fellas lol

 

 

cars looking sweet but this reverse and fog light is still twisting my mellon, but those lights are far better than the originals

 

you don't need any reverse lights for MOT

they're not part of the test

i reverse mine in a garage and was worried about the light seeings as i have tints as well but it's fine . . . it is the best way to do it . . look for a red l.e.d bulb on e-bay or motorspare shops

Sorry to hijack this thread but was wondering, why is it so much harder to fit these lights to a wagon?

 

Dont go for the Red LED bulbs as they are not bright enough to pass an MOT. Mine was failed for this and i had to put in a 21w red standard bulb to solve it.

just got my lights from scoobyworld will be fitting them saturday, any ideas on the best stuff to use to seal them, do the plug connectors that come with the lights go straight into the car or do they need to be altered ? cheers fellas

 

I've been using an 18 LED bulb from ultraleds and its passed 2 MOT's without any problems...

 

and mine


they should come with the bulbs and holders and all you need to do is plug the connectors in

Yep i got all the bulbs and connectors sounds like a simlpe straight swap. Even treated myself to the front crystal pack as well .

 

When I fitted STi rears to mine, I just drilled a hole in the driver's side one (in the same place as the fog light was fitted to the original lights)......



Then I took off the STi wiring & bulbs (that you can see in the pics) and put the original wiring & bulbs on there.....and jammed the fog light in the new hole I'd made lol. I needed to file little 'notches' on the hole aswell, to allow the bits on the fog light holder to go through the hole....then twist & locks in place like a legend! Passed MOT too

 

thought of that to but a red fog bulb in the reverse light was easier lol

 

yes its much easier just using the reverse light.

As for sealing them my mate did not seal his until he found 10cm of water where his spare wheel should have been and down both rear quater panels. We removed the lights and fitted then again using black silicon sealent. No more water problems now :-)
