I think AJF has the right idea. But I've gone for 80/100 bulbs (£12 twin-pack from Halfords) which are vastly better than standard and don't run the danger of either welding themslves to the connector or melting the reflector, which some people have suffered by running high-wattage bulbs.
I've had mine for over a year now (this is their second winter) and absolutely no probs. I can't believe that the headlights can't take an 80w dipped beam which is only 20w up on standard, and I only use main beam about 10% of the time and there's always plenty of cool air rushing past. Just don't sit in traffic for ages with your lights on main beam
