open door light problem

open door light problem
hi can anyone tell me the reason my open door light is staying on i have just swap my wagon rear door fitted great all wiring went back as came out everything works great but open door on dash stays on now when door is tight shut just wondered how it works and what tells it door is open or shut ???

There is a switch which looks like a rubber stop. If you open the door you will see it fitted to the car door frame (not the door itself). You could test it by pressing it in to see if the light goes out. Maybe the door is not making contact with it or its wiring has come loose.
Otherwise check the light switch & make sure its set correctly & not set on permanent.

tailgate
sorry i might not have explained it is the tailgate i am talking about not the doors they are ok and working its just the tailgate that is making the open door light on the dash light up

I have already typed this once? must be some sn problems???
Remove the tailgate plastic trim panel at the rear.
Then make sure every single electrical connector is plugged in. 1 of those connectors make the switch contact when the tailgate is closed.
The connection point is not clearly visible, I had the same problem trying to find the connection point & decided to leave it, until I found the open door symbol would remain on.
If all of the above is ok then check the tailgate wiring loom around the hinge section (inside the rubber grommets) it could be that the wires have been damaged.
