Default Crystal headlight bulbs?

I have crystal headlights fitted tom my version 5 sti and together with the rest of you have been looking at adjusting/upgrading in some way the lights/bulbs.

My first question is - there is an adjuster on the lights but they do not seem to do anything when I turn them. Which way should I turn them to try and lift the beem up? (It seems when I'm driving that I can only see about 12 feet in front of me)

Secondly - on the back of the light it states 80/100. Does this mean that they are the bulbs I should be using or the complete opposite?

Thanks

Cool

Firstly, does your car have electric adjusters, worked by a switch on the dash near the heater controls? If so, it's not set at anything other than "0" is it?

Secondly, I don't recall which way to turn the adjuster, I DO remember it's on TOP of the rear of the lamp. Mine has had Morettes for years Try parking facing a wall and turn it one turn and see what happens to the beam....

Lastly, WHERE is the 100/80 marking? On the bulb? On the rear of the light?

I use GE Megalights 60% uprated bulbs, but many swear by Philips Vision Plus 50% uprated.

DO be aware that OE Scoob lights are so crap that even utterly brilliant bulbs, (pun intended) will just put MORE light all over the place Changing to Morettes is a good, but expensive alternative......

Hi Alcazar

my car doesn't have any electronic adjustment inside only the two adjusters on each light. I have tried adjusting these when parked close to a wall and they seem to have no effect.

The 80/100 marking is on the back of the headlight unit itself.

Thanks

Question

I wonder if the adjuster has dropped off it's seating inside the light? I had it happen to me.

Try taking one of the lights off the car, (o/s is easiest), and shaking it gently. If it rattles, it's the adjuster which has come loose. Reseating isn't difficult.

You have checked that the bulbs are fitted.........
a) correctly,
b) right way up,
c) and seated properly,
haven't you?

I'm quite certain that I have fitted the bulbs correctly. These are in fact the third set of bulbs I have fitted to try and enable myself to be able to see where I'm going.

I will have a look the weekend at the light unit itself to see if there is a problem with the adjuster inside the unit.

Re - the 80/100, do you have any idea or does anyboby else have the same on their crystal lights?

Thanks

When I had my STi 5 it came with 80/100 bulbs as standard, swapped them to Osram Silverstars then went back to 80/100 again.

Classics havew the most useless headlight reflector unit design in the world!

Equalled only by the lights on the wife's Xantia.

Twin light units using two H1 bulbs, one for dip, one for main, the dips stay on when the mains are selected.

Problem is, they BOTH adjust together, and when the dips are fine, the mainbeams are on the floor too. If I lift the mainbeams, I get flashed all the time and can hardly see on dips. The duips POINT right down the road, as they should, but the mainbeams converge about 30m in front of the car, slightly to the left. Absolutely crap!
