Default trailer wiring

well ive got hold of a second hand towbar and wiring (thanks bruce )

anyway i need to sort the wiring out on my98 classic wagon turbo

am i right in there should be a factory fit connector somewhere in the boot to connect into ?

also does the relay for indicators need upgrading ?

and is there a tell tale light in the dash ? (im not really fussed about this as i wont be towing that often or any great distance)

From memory, the connextor is in the back left corner as you are standing behind car.

Not sure about the light. you might need to run one through the car.

Removed the towbar from my 97 wagon many years ago(5).

On my '98 SALOON, the connector is behind the inner trim of the REAR OFFSIDE of the boot. Could be on the other side for a wagon I suppose?

I upgraded the flasher relay. The original is way up behind the fusebox at the top of the dash in my car. I found it by setting indicators working, and literally FEELING the three up there to see which one was clicking. It's a swine to get at.

My new one came with a telltale wire. I connected it to a 5mm 12V green LED and it's holder that I got from Rapid Electronics for a couple of quid, I think Maplins do 'em too. Drilled an 8mm hole in the instrument surround, using an 8mm drill bit held in my fingers, (8mm is correct for that holder), and inserted it from the rear. Looks neat and is unobtrusive.

On my 00, 5 door, the plug is by the rear n/s tail light. The problem is getting the socket to fit. The legacy one works but comes as part of a kit. Part No SL1010AA012, 45A WIRING KIT- T/BAR, £40.43 + VAT in May 2005.
The kit includes everything you will need including the H/duty flasher unit so it's not such bad value.
