Default water spray,

i brought a water spray kit off of ebay ages ago and am now getting round to fitting it, anyway the switch it came with looks rubbish so have brought a subaru one, the manual switch not the auto one, and was wondering if any one had a wireing diagram or knows how i can wire the switch up.

The official subaru manual switch works with a timer relay. It's a "momentary press to make" switch, this means it's only on while you push it, it doesn't latch on ie push once for on, push again for off. With the timer relay you push the switch once and let go immediately and this triggers a relay which runs the spray pump for say 5 seconds.

If you don't have the timer relay and want it to spray for as long as you hold the switch down, then you don't want to wire it up like Subaru do. Some momentary switches will stay on all the time you press them. In that case what you want to do should be possible. Some momentary switches only stay on for a fraction of a second as you press it, even if you keep it pressed for longer. In that case you can't do what you're trying to do. Depends on the internal mechanics of the switch.

Got wiring diagrams for the manual system at home, I'll see if I can work out which pins will do the above tonight, provided it's the right kind of switch of course. If no-one beats me to it.

It's not a normal relay it's a timer relay. Pretty specialist and probably bespoke design by Subaru for this application.

Kick it with 12V from the switch and the relay closes for a set time, in this case about 2 or 3 secs, whether you have let go of the switch in 1/2 sec or kept it pushed for 10 secs.

Wiring diagrams here look under Section 7 Wiring and part 47 Intercooler Water Spray. You want pins 3 and 5. What I have called a timer relay Subaru call Intercooler Water Spray Timer.

I reckon it's worth just wiring it direct to pins 3 and 5 and trying it with no relay / timer.

If anyone else is looking what I'd be interested in is a similar wiring diagram for the JDM auto system.

I've got two of the Subaru relays if you want one?
I have wired up a complete newage STi spray system into my WRX.
I can give you some info & piccies on it if its a newage car you are dealing with?

ive managed to get the switch working the pump for as long as i press the button, so if i hold it for 5 secs it sprays for 5 secs, all though i would prefer it work of the relay so dont have to hold the button on, would it be hard to add the relay in? and if you have one how much you want for it,
thanks

£10 inc P & P for the relay.
If you are fittin gthe system to a newage car then I have some wiring diagrams and piccies of trim removal & connections that may be of help.

I wouldn't recommend the button is used to fire the pump directly. The pump draws quite a few amps and the Subaru buttons won't take it for long. This could result in a fire.
