They're in :)
Well all installed
Mahoosive thank you to Paul Davies (who'll probably wince from now on if he see's me with so much as a 9v battery). Cheers fella, i.o.u beer.
Not the nightmare job I/we thought it was going to be, in my ignorance I bought along a load of looms and relays which turned out to be just what we needed to hot wire Subaru's odd headlight wiring.
Pattern seems ok and boy are they bright..... will put some piccies up later (when it's dark)

Put two of mine right behind the lower lamps (behind the bumper, on to the metalwork panelly bit! ) and put the other two (for the headlamps) on the bumper itself, inside the bumper, next to the number plate area)

I put mine *on* the panel, not behind it but that's cause those ballasts feed the lower lamps and keeps the wiring close to the lamps.
The headlamps ballasts i fitted behind the bumper and fed the wiring up to the headlamps (plenty loom). This was only because i didn't want to get the ballasts wet.
Don't think i've got a pic with the other ones inside the bumper though..

Hello there. I have just inherited an unused HID kit that I have just set about installing. I fit the ballasts behind the headlamp case, seem to fit quite nicely. My problem is that the lighting wiring does not seem to make any sense. The low beam comes on, but the high beam (its a Hi/Lo solenoid HID kit) doesn't maintain power to the ballast when it switches. The obvious solution is to use a diode to keep power running through the low beam connection. This should work in theory, but it doesn't.
I am also wondering why most HID kits come with a relay and wiring harness. Is this necessary? Could this be why my system doesn't work? Bottomfeeder, you said that you used a wiring loom direct from the battery... any hints or tips? This whole installation would have been made ten times easier if the manufacturer had investigated the H4 design, rather than guess what it is like.
Please help
Thanks

On a "normal" HID wiring setup for a single bulb then the relay is just a power relay from the battery to the ballast. A connection is made the the coil side of the relay from the existing headlamp wiring - when you turn on the lights, this triggers the relay and switches on a higher power feed to the ballast (AFAIR it was a 30A relay in mine.)
This higher current is used to fire the igniter and strike up the ballasts as they are effectively fluorescent lights...
For a H4 dual setup I'd guess the dip beam is as mentioned above and the main beam still uses the standard car wiring / harness.
This might give you a start...
