Hope you guys can help.

I have purchased a pair of electrically folding wing mirrors to fit to my MY00, there are two questions:

They are currently in a folded in position, which cables should I place a voltage across to open them out?

Once opened I can have them painted (They are white my scoob is Dark Blue), is there an easy way of taking the mirror to pieces (if possible) without damaging them to enable easy spraying?

I have just had one of my mirror painted from white to blue.
The mirrors can actually fold back straight without having to connect them electrically. Whether is causes any damage I could not really say but I have folded them closed & open a few times when having them re-sprayed & they have worked fine after fitting them to the door.
Where the mirror joins the hinge side that screws to the door section. The triangular bit, it can be removed by undoing the 3 philips screws (they were impossible to remove on mine without causing damage to the screw head (x) so I left them alone. To get the paint in this section of the (2 parts) of the mirror is easier if separated.
The glass itself is also difficult to remove. I left mine in place as I did not want to break it. If you press the glass in each corner individually, it just makes easier to mask & paint behind the glass.
As for the fitting & making the mirrors fold electrically I dont no as my car comes with them standard (import). Im sure though if you do a search there should be threads on the topic of fitting folding mirrors to uk cars. As I have read these threads before.

 

Thanks ticky for the infomation, I felt it important to ask about the dismantling, just incase there was an easy method. I expect that my paint guy (give him part plus paint code, cross his palm with silver, ask no questions) will have no problems. The installation should not be too difficult as I only need the extra two wires adding.

 

the glass is held onto the plastic by double4 sided tape

the plastic is held onto the mirror by sum threaded plastic bolts, its these that the mirror winds in and out to make the glass move, you can pull them out (i did although my glass was allready broken at this point lol)

the 3 screws under neath need to come out, then you can remove the black plastic wedge thing which will help feed the wires through

the mirror electrics will unscrew from the houseing, at this point i masked up everything, the wires wouldnt remove due to one end having the mirror electrics on it and the other having a dirty big harnes plug, i wasnt prepared to chop the loom

my mirror was being painted from white, to white (i smashed it and repared it)

 

I thought at one point that I would beable to remove the motorised folding mechanism out of one and install it into my existing Blue mirror casings, however I too noticed that cutting the wires would be required. Don't fancy doing that or potentially cracking the mirror glass.
