Default Cheapo Driving Lights

I'm planning on putting a turbo front bumper on my GL and so will be wanting something to go in the fog light holes. Seen as front fogs are a waste of time 99% of the time, I'd rather have driving lights to come on with main beam.

DRMotorsport do a PIAA PRO 80 XT Driving Lamp Kit for £250 which is the cheapest Scoob driving light kit I've seen around, but is still more than I want to spend ideally.

There are some really cheap driving lights around, IIRC Halfords do a pair for £35 or so, and Motorworld do similar. Demon Tweeks do a pair of Ring Microline Driving Lamps for £21 , or Hella Comet FF200 for £61 a pair. Would these be as naff as the prices suggest? Largely I'd just want them to sit there in the bumper looking good , but it would be good to add to the light provided by my Philips VP bulbs in MY95 headlights.

Any suggestions or advice? What size of lights will the classic bumpers take?

Cheers,

Ben

Cool

A couple of years ago I got Cibie Oscar +'s for about £80. They are std items (ie not set up for Sub) so needed a little DIY to get them mounted. I run them with 100watt bulbs and am very pleased. Initially they blew bulbs rather regularily but I got relacement bulb holders for them and they haven't blown a bulb since (new holders are a lot beefier than old ones). I also wired them up so that I can select them off with the fog light switch. On main beam when you turn them off it really is like where was moses when the lights went off!

Hella Comet 500's from Halfords at about £50 will fit straight in with a little strengthening around the mounting.

Cheers guys, some good ideas. Those Hellas sound like a good deal Graham, are you pleased with them?

Any ideas if fog covers from ETS would fit over them? Not sure if I'll get a pre or post facelift bumper (and thus fog covers) yet.

Thanks,

Ben

Ben,

Hella Comet 500's, and fit them using the same brackets from the PIAA's.

If you change to a 1999-2000 front bumper, the fog lamp covers will fit over them.
