Default Anyone know how to health check the alternator?

Scooby was 'dormant' over weekend which resulted in battery going dead. Bought a new battery but wondered how to check alternator is working OK. A 'strange' ticking noise was mentioned during last service and wanted to make sure alternator wasn't the real fault.

Anyone know ?

Thanks in advance.

Alex.

obvious way it to get a multimeter on the battery should measure around 12volt (obviously) then start the car and measure the battery again. should be more around the 13.5-14volts which would show that the alternator is charging the battery

And the voltage should be pretty much constant with the lights and accessories on, or else the alternator won't charge the battery while driving at night, etc
