PIAA clear covers

From: Glos UK. - Manufacturers of ECU Data Monitors.
Just fitted some subaru clear covers overs my PIAA's, had to turn them 45 deg. as shown in previous threads but to get a tight fit i had to take off the 3 rubber dome spacers. What are they for? to stop vibraton, to allow cooling air between lamp and cover?
I have been told the PIAA's get very hot, will using the covers touching the lens cause a problem?
