Ok, as some may know I'm considering going for a quad lamp setup for
the blackbeast.
We all know that the lights in the pre MY01's are not as good as they
should be for such a car. So, my thinking is that the morette quad
conversion would improve this situation? would this be correct?
Also, what about fitting HID to the morette's. is this possible, if
so then what kit (hella?) and what aprox cost? from the little I have
read it would seem that fitting HID is simple, is this true, could a
complete plank like me fit it? This also goes for the morretes, are
the connections easy, ie; plug into existing wiring?
thanks for any info.

Markus,
IIRC someone once posted a link to a Japanese Scooby spares list that included a setup similar to the Morettes that replaced the existing headlights & sidelights with an HID setup.
I'll see if I kept the link anywhere but don't hold your breath!
Only trouble was that they were about a £1000 I think

Markus,
You're thinking of Ian/555 who installed some Hella HID lamps into his Morettes!
Problem with that idea is that HID's cost from about £450 up!!
Get the Morettes (easy to fit!!) and eitehr use high voltage bulbs (PIAA or SS or whatever) or get some Philips Vision Plus bulbs!
The Philips bulbs were stunning, but I changed them for high voltage PIAA bulbs! Marginally better! I wouldn't have done the swap if I'd paid full price for the PIAA's though!!!
Cheers

Andy,
I've got Morettes on my MY99.
Don't supose you know the part codes for the Philip's bulbs do you? Can you get them from Halfords?
More light, more light!

Andy,
Powerbulbs don't list an H2 in the Philips Vision Plus range - H1, H4, H7.
When you say you need twist in bulbs, are just refering to the optional side lights in the Morettes? You don't get a choice of fitting on the Philips range by the looks of it.

geoffn, yup, was directly related to the conversation the other night! plus a quad lamp setup would make the beast look even more, umm, unique
I posted on iwoc as well and Bob Iles replied back, with a good description of how to fit morettes, plus had some pics as well.
Think i'd stick with the standard quad, with uprated bulbs for a while then if that's still no go, try the HID.

Markus,
For your reference, they use H4 bulbs in the outer lamps (dipped and main) and H2's in the inner lamps (main only).
There is a holder for sidelight bulbs in the outer lamp, but they require splicing the standard sidelights. Also the bulbs required are not the plug in ones like standard, but twist in ones.
Chris,
The best place (cost and speed) I found for bulbs was

Before you do anything else, go to Halfords and get some of their uprated bulbs. They are better than the PIIAs I've had but don't blow and don't cost £45 quid each.
I run 100/80 bulbs which are a vast improvement. £12.99 for a twin-pack. I think this is what some imports come fitted with. You can also get 130/100 but I'm just a bit concerned about over-loading the wiring or even melting the plastic reflectors.
I've had these bulb now since Xmas and am very pleased. Dealer said they'd be okay, eg safe. I know others have also gone this route without any probs.
It's got to worth a try at these prices!
Richard.

Moe,
It's an easy job, but I'd ignore most of the instructions, which are in Franglais! (Bad translation from French to English!)
Use the pictures, and I could help you out if needed!
If you are feeling lazy, they install them unpainted, like Nito and a few other owners. (They are supplied in black, so not a major issue on your car!)
Might be worth having a word with Nito and see if he can help you out with carboning the Morette covers.
Cheers
