Question

Got my MY99 back from a service at Monk's Heath last night. They had replaced the front side light bulbs as "both had blown". When I asked if this was common , the service guy said that they were always replacing them.
Is this is common fault or is it just my Scoob ?. If it is common, is there a way to stop it happening ?.
(Not had the car long - I'm still gobsmacked
by it's roadholding and performance)

Hi Doc,
I've had mine for a year now and haven't blown a single bulb so it can't be that common!

I'd agree with Pete it's not that common.

Had one blow on my MY99, but that was after 23mths.

Ive got a MY99 and both my sidelight bulbs blew in the first couple of months
I replaced them with you ordinary run of the mill bulbs from my local motor store and they are still going strong...
Maybe the original bulbs that Subaru use are not that good quality wise ?

Exclamation

Seen a couple of P1's with blown sidelight bulbs, a few friends have had to change them on their MY99's, and I use to have problems with my old MY97 car (but it was a dodgy connection)

I have had a couple of side light bulbs and I have also noticed that when 1 goes the other does.

MY00

First side light blew after 7 months, now other side blown 3 weeks later. I noticed when changing first bulb (with standard Halfords £1.50 pr)that it was noticeably brighter than original Subaru bulb. Trying blue glow ones next.

Yes, I have gone through more than I care to remember. My previous dealer told me they work loose 'cos of the type of bulb they use. If one has gone out give the lens a slap and it will usually come back on again, this works for a couple of weeks and then it finally goes.

Keep an eye on the number plate lights as they have the same problem.

Hi Doc,

My 98MY blew both when about 18 months old. Put two new ones in 8 months ago and they are still going strong.

MY00, 12 months / ~25000miles

replaced 4 side light bulbs this far. I'd say it eats them a bit too fast. Fortunately it's very easy to change, and I always carry a spare with me.

Don't you just hate when you're trying to annoy other people by using only side lights and fogs, and one of the side lights goes dead?...

Cool

Well, it looks as though Scoobs do eat sidelight bulbs. Sounds as though a trip to Halfords is called for.
Any of you interested if I can negotiate a bulk buy deal ? :d
