Just had one of my PIAA bulbs go..

1st question is... are these only sourced from Subaru as the spots were fitted as a Subaru kit (probably a dumb question)?

2nd question is... how easy is it to fit the bulbs...

Anybody ?

Just out of interest.. is it worth upgrading the bulbs or is there only 1 bulb brightness that will fit...??

Jason,

I've found the standard bulbs to be more than adequate. Don't know of any brighter ones, but they probably are available.

All the best for the New Year.

The highest wattage H3 bulb PIAA do is the 120w the lamps come with - and even these are not in their catalogue......

Can anybody confirm the wattage of the bulbs that come as standard in the PIAA spots?

I thought they were 120W (and indeed so did my dealer), but on removing a blown bulb to replace it, I found a 100W bulb in there.
I can pick up an identical bulb in Halfords for £5!!

Strangely, the 100W bulb I took out has printed on it "Not For Use In Europe"

I suspect your lamps are somewhat old - 100w was probably the previous wattage fitted before 120w. It is actually a PIAA bulb??

It is marked Not for use in Europe because it is not an E marked bulb for use in Europe but a Jap market spec one - either the car is a grey import or the lamps are.....and may be why a 100w bulb fitted....

You can get a 100w bulb from Halfords - but it may not be the same as a PIAA one.

Hi All

I had a bulb blow 2 weeks after I pick up my99, then 3 weeks later the other bulb went. So I contacted my local dealer and they said there where two different types of PIAA bulbs you can buy. 100w = £9.53 each or 120W = £31.23 each.

The Original bulbs where the 120W. So to save some money I went for the 100W bulb purly because they where £9.53

I wish I had gone for the 120W bulbs now, big difference between the them !!!!!

Chris.

Apart from the price, the difference in lumens between a PIAA 100w bulb and a 120w is about 5% (not 20%) - i.e. indiscernible.

Jason.
Halfords do a 130 watt bulb that works fine in my PIAAs much cheaper than £30 quid, about £8 I think.

I don't know the code but it's a H3 fitment isn't it, the helpful folk in halfords will be able to sort you out i'm sure. I had the standard 120W that came in the PIAAs that came on the RB5. I noticed very little difference but would expect you would notice a little over you 100Ws

Car is an MY99 - only 18 months old, bought from new from Vale in Wincanton, apparently a Prodrive approved fitter... makes me wonder. The spots were fitted from new

Had PIAA lamps fitted in November, standard bulbs now are 120W. I had 130W bulbs fitted at same time. Lamps are fantastic.

A friend has the same kit with original 120W bulbs. There is a difference, but that may be down to the bulb manufacturer. I'll check the make and post it here....

Sonic.
