Declaring Driving Lamps.

BellDirect have just stated my insurance will increase by £24 if I replace my front fog lamps with Hella gas discharge lamps !
Anyone else had their insurance increased for fitting 'safer' driving lights ?

My insurance didn't increase. But they only replace with standard items (ie if smashed I get fogs back)
Is this the same with your insurance or do you get like for like? As this would explain the extra.

Dave, mine only replace with standard...
I've sent an email asking for them to justify the proposed insurance increase for the lamps even though they did not increase it for the backbox and filter.

Gas discharge lamps are expensive items. How much are they, £600 to £900 depending what sort??! 
Also being at the front of the car, they are more likely to be damaged.
Not wishing to say that I'm better than you, but I have a set of ScoobySport driving lamps on my car, and they are covered at no extra cost!
I guess at about £200, they are probably the same sort of money as a brand new set of fog lamps from Subaru!!! (From an insurance payout perspective)
My insurance company will cover any additional modifications at 10% of the cost of the modification, but it is a like for like replacement. So big brakes at £1500, will add £150 to my insurance!!
So £24 seems to be a good price despite the cost of the modification!!!

OK...got a reply from BellDirect today.
They said the extra £24 was due to the increased risk of theft (of the car)!
Lamps themselves are not 'insurered' and will not be replaced if stolen/damaged
Anyone else had their insurance increased because of the 'increased theft risk' caused by fitting driving lamps ?
By the way...the £24 is for 6months remaining cover on policy...so 1 year would be about £50 ?

Just told my insurance company(well broker A Plan) regarding my change to twin headlamps, still waiting to see if they want to charge me more. Cost me an extra £200 to change the wheels, exhaust and spoiler, Also asked what difference PPP would make
