Clock dim switch on MY00
I have just got my MY00 Impreza and was surprised to see a switch that is for the sole purpose of dimming the digital clock at night - how naff! Is there a modification that can be done to automatically switch this to dim when the light are on?
p.s. - Still a bloody brilliant car though!

Naf? It's the best bit of the car - the comments I've had....
Yea OK - its naf
Christ knows what they were thinking when they did that (probably done by the same bloke who designed the front of the MY01 car)

It would be fairly easy to do a mod to automatically dim the clock if required, all you would need would be a standard relay and a few bits of wire. Make a couple of connections and away you go.
If you want to do this give me a shout and I will tell you how to do it.

But as I said before, just leave it on dim, thats what I do, unless I'm real bored driving at night, then I might actually switch it.

Now it may be different on a MY00 but in my MY95 ( and I don't think they've changed the unit
) the purpose of the swicth is not to dim the clock light, but to cancel the automatic dimming if its not required - hence the "Bright" switch rather than "Dim" switch.
I think the idea is most of the time when the lights are on you want the clock to be dim - because its night and its distracting. But if its a little foggy and you've got the lights on you may also want to see the clock so you can cancel the auto dim feature with a press of the "Bright Switch". I think you'll find if the lights are off the switch has no effect at all.
