STI 8 Fuel Gauge prob maybe?

Anyone got probs with their fuel gauges on MY 03 cars??
Today, the reserve light was on, the needle was at the bottom, so went to fill up.
Put £38 of Optimax in (48 litres) and it wouldn't take anymore.
The damn fuel gauge reckons i've only got half a tank in there!
Sorry, but 48 litres in a 60 litre tank is MORE THAN HALF!
Also, the previous 3 fill ups, (with gauge showing not a lot left) i could not put more than £35 worth of fuel in (at 79p a litre). The pump kept cutting out..which I take to mean i've put as much as i can in it. But the needle to go to the top!!
I was expecting close on £50 every time (60 litres at 80p is £48)
but am nowhere near it!
Car's going in for its 1k service on monday. Will defo ask the garage what's going on!!!!
