Question

Hello from Canada

I've posted this question on NASIOC and searched your site but was unable to come up with an answer. Someone suggested I try posting here.

I've purchased the Prodrive UK300 headlamps and I am wondering if anyone would know if the standard switch available from the Subaru Dealers will work with these lights and their adjusters? I know that it will work with the STi lights but not sure about the UK300's. I'm driving an 02 WRX and needed an adapter to get the lights to hook up. Would I also need an adapter for the headlamp adjustment if possible? Thanks for your input.

Cheers,
Paul

Vandy,

Hi to Canada - I've got relations near Toronto

As for the lights, there should be a plug in the kit to allow you to put the UK300s on. You're supposed to take off the WRX level adjuster connector (with a lot of swearing if it doesn't go smoothly ) and then put this new one on which allows connection to the UK300 leveler motor... (unless Canada ones are different)

we have 3 wires for the level adjust on a WRX, STis have 6. there's a few threads about this if you search for "sti lights on a wrx" or similar. Converting an Sti to a WRX is relatively straight forward (famous last words) but putting STi lights on a WRX is a bit more involved

Question

just re-read a few bits...

"standard switch available from the Subaru Dealers" is this a dashboard switch for the levelers, i.e. does it have positions 0 to 3 on it? and do you have an option of a WRX or STi version (as I could be interested in an Sti version at a later date?

Apple: Thanks for the replies.

Currently the Canadian WRX doesn't come with headlamp adjusters at all. Not sure about the STi yet cause it's not here till May or June.

The dashboard switch with positions 0 to 3 is the one I'm talking about. I guess it would only have three wires comming from it since we don't have the STi yet.

So I guess it will work??? I mean the switch will be compatible with the lights? I'll order the switch and see what it looks like.

I haven't got the car right now as I got rear ended last week. He rammed me into the suv in front of me. Waiting for a hood. (back order)

Thanks,
Paul

I found this thread that pretty much solved all my problems.

Apple: There is some talk about this STi switch you mentioned. You might want to check it out. It's quite long but has a ton of information in it.

Edit: I can't figure out how to link on this board.

Cool

Paul,

sorry to hear of the accident

if you can get hold of a wrx switch rather than a Sti switch, that's half the battle won as the UK300 lights are designed to fit WRXs rather than STis

I've just ploughed thro' the thread and I'd seen the last post from Nismo240 on I-club - that's how it should be done (i.e. GND, +12V and signal wire) The wrx switch is effectively a 4 position potentiometer. if you can get the switch, you don't have to work out the resistances, just wire between the switch and lights AFAIK

I've been trying to put some STi lights on my WRX and get some Morettes on somebody else's STi but that's another saga / wiring "challenge"

Apple

PS have a look on the Morette / UK300 swap thread (shouldn't be too far away on here) there's some piccies of my car with UK300s and HID lamps fitted

I'll keep you posted on the other thread. How do you like the HID's? Looks sweet.

Wink

Paul,

I'm in 2 minds about the HIDs - they are a watery blue light which means they're nearly hopeless in fog (worse than halogens)

It takes a bit of time to get used to the colour temperature if you have changed from halogens

They are great at reflecting off hi-vis signs, jackets etc and can be good for picking out road signs depending on how you've got the lamps aligned - make sure you get a good alignment done after fitting as the projector lenses have a definite beam cut-off and the lights are bar stewards to adjust for up/down (screw is well hidden in the side of the inner wing

Also the HID dips stay on when you put the main beams on (halogens - these are good ) but unfortunately people don't like you driving round with these on all the time at night

Question

Paul,

for future reference, could you email me the piccies on the NASIOC thread (if you're a member) as I'd be interested in the STi connections etc? my email's in the profile on top of the answer)

I don't think there's much point me joining just to get the piccies (another login to forget )

Thanks

Apple
