You can fit what you like, right up to the biggest ones I've seen at 160/140w. Be aware of the following though:
Anything over 100w will need different connectors/relay/fuse.
Use of high wattage bulbs CAN cause burning of connectors/reflectors etc, and melting of plastic headlight protectors.
Higher wattage bulbs CAN last for much shorter times than standard ones, as they run hotter.

I think you'll find that 100/80's are actually illegal, that could be why the dealer is saying that, however, I've had them for about two years with no probs, I'm not even gonna bother changing them when it comes to MOT time.
Ron.
Made a big difference, my spots don't make such a big difference now!!!!

Mrk,
a few people have had the connectors melt onto the bulbs, I haven't, yes the are illegal, but I don't care about that.
Looks like you need new bulbs!

anything other than 55/50 watts will not be "E" marked. The Road Traffic Act (Construction and Use) Regulations specify this wattage but failure to use bulbs other than this wattage in itself is not an offence in itself, but could provide evidence for another offence like defective or incorrectly adjusted (dazzling) lamps.

I've had 100/80w in my My00 for 2 years. By coincidence they have both just blown at once (on dip) so I have temporarily put the OE 60/55w back in.

The near side connector was slightly melted onto the bulb, but managed to prise it off eventually without damaging it with a screwdriver.

It's very important to remember to squeeze the connector, as they've got a silly little clip thing on thiem that will stop you getting the connector off, could make all the difference!
