Yes, I need more light for those darker nights...

My local store has 'high wattage bulbs' from Ring, but I am mildly paranoid about extra watts melting the rather lightweight wiring loom - has anyone tried them, or any other recommended (legal) bulbs like the Philips Visionplus which seems a good bet if the Ring bulbs are not a good idea.

Similarly, although it has been foggy here recently, are driving light replacements for the fog lights worth whil for more full beam? I'd love the P1 type lights if someone makes a kit for the mechanically inept.

(yes, I'd like HID but its too expensive to do properly and I want to see without blinding the oncoming traffic... they might hit me)

Visionplus work very well - had them in low beams for about a year and just got round to ordering them for the main beams.

Also makes a massive difference keeping the lenses clean (on morettes anyway).

But aren't Morettes main beams H2? I didn't think they came in PVP?

They're H1s on my MY01...

I ordered H7s by mistake, when I went to fit them I found they were H1s, so now I'm just waiting for an exchange set from powerbulbs.com.

I ran 80W/100W's on my MY97 for over a year with no loom problems (past threads on this subject can be found with search). These need to be properly aligned which I did at an MOT centre - the consequence of that was to break the adjusters but at least got them in place without anyone flashing me in irritation. They're illegal ....

One blew the dipped beam last week and I had to replace both since I was in a desparate need Subaru no longer supply these bulbs due to "problems with them welding to the plugs", and couldn't quickly find a supplier. I admit that it was a tad difficult to get them off but there was no evidence of heat-blooming etc so cannot see the fuss here.

Replaced them with the PIAA Euro-legal jobbies (55/60->110/100), out of interest cos many people seem to think these are the mutt's, but they are more than twice the price of the 80/100's at £45/pair.

Verdict is that I am not impressed, and think that the cheaper high wattage bulbs are deffo the way to go: value for money and slightly better illumination (tho my passenger side bulb could do with some improved alignment ...).

edited cos I can't getthe f'ing smilies to work for some reason!? and then again cos I can't spell and I'm **** that way ...

Looks like a toss-up between the Ring high wattage and the Philips Visionplus, then (as a first step).

Morettes if and when I feel richer, though I'm not (personally) sure about the appearance - I like the fact that my car does not look tweaked.

But HID driving lamps for Christmas please, Santa!!

Thank you for your thoughts - helpful in clearing the mind.

The other alternative is my (suggested) Xenon super White group buy

Dunno if those Superwhites are the same as the PIAA's I've described??

Morettes lean too far towards the Max Power brigade for my liking; as a traditionalist I agree that the overall appearance of the car should match the model year.

It's what's underneath that counts ...

I've tried several types - higher wattage Philips and Ring and Piaa. Have had PIAA superwhites, now on PIAA Extreme white - they are indeed the Muts nuts - you pays your money and takes your choice. About £30 more than vision plus per pair- not that expensive for the quality.
