I have seen these bulbs advertised on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1763364657) as I think the lights on my95 uk are rather poor I was considering buying some but thought I would ask the experts om here first.

Has anyone tried these bulbs in there scooby? If so how were they any good and did you have any problems with the extra current these will obviously draw?

Or is there a better alternative that isnt that expensive.

And latestly what fitting does the scooby have is it a H4 or something else.

The classic Impreza is an H4 fitting.
145 Watt bulbs will need you to wire in a seperate feed from the battery via a fuse and a relay. Two sets if your dips are uprated to the same sort of level. Not that difficult or expensive.
Be aware that high power bulbs often (not always) don't last as long as standard ones, and take that into consideration when buying.

My experience...higher wattage bulbs = finer filament = more easily broken.

Throw in bumpy lanes with lowered STi suspension = new bulbs please

HID????? Expensive, yes, but no filament to snap, Much brighter than even the most powerful halogen lamp, and the way forward.....at least IMHO

I've had mine for 6 weeks now, and still "cannot believe it", as someone used to say.
Yes, they're that good. Worth the cost? I dunno, but I'd buy 'em again now I know.

I'm not convinced myself, my dad's car has HIDs and when I drive that they are noticably whiter and slightly brighter than my 55W halogens, but not significantly so. Certainly I doubt they're as bright as 100W halogens (probably because 100W are for "off-road use only" ) but I couldn't justify paying £400-500 for them.

Also the dipped beam projection isn't adjustable (supposedly it's automatic with all HID) so doesn't go as far as my Scooby lights even when they're set at position 2. Positions 1 and 0 go much further on the Scooby.

The Bi-HID lights that work in high beam mode are probably quite a good thing though as long as the brightness can be set quite high rather than the usual "slightly better than 55W halogen" setup.

Don't know abt "lightly better than 55W halogen", mine are Hella, rated at 35W with a light output of ..........wait for it........300w halogen eqivalent!!!
When I put them on, it's goodnight halogens,(and I've got Morettes with Phillips Vision plus bulbs in), and they make the halogens look yellow!!!

The 80W/100W H4 bulbs made a worthwhile improvement on my car for about £10-£12 the pair from Halfords. Worth a try before spending a fortune. The seem much brighter than the Xenon 30% brighter bulbs Halfords also sell.

That's because they're 60%/90% brighter

I fitted some 80W-100W but removed them. I read that the voltage draw through the thin wires was significant. This lead to the wires breaking down over time and burning the connector at the back of the light. Replacing the wires and putting in a relay for these bulbs would solve this and then you would get the benifit of the 100W rating.

Agreed, but you have to be pretty careful if you use plastic headlight protectors, and the really highpower bulbs can also scorch the reflector.

Well I've had the 80/100 bulbs in for about a year and a half and have had no problems. The connectors come off the back of the bulb easily too, as long as you remember to squeeze the locking mechanism on the sides.

Thanks for all the information, I have brought the 80/100w bulbs from Halfords and will be giving them a try. I will keep an eye on the cables/connectors any signs of a problem and I will rewire them via a relay as advised.

Will have to save before I get the HIDs.
