Near side door mirror ... buzzes when car power is on ... does not fold in/out and is loose about 1 inch when out ( can push back and forward easily,) ... mirror glass moves left/right/up/down OK.
So fuse is OK, switch is OK ( RHS mirror works as normal ). Seems motor is OK buy not connecting with the gears or similar IN the mirror to fold in / out?
Can the mirror be easily opened to replace gears / cos or motor,or is it a new mirror unit? And if so where is best place to get one?
For Euro models - new.
Looks as if it only comes as a unit with glass but without scalp cap, indicator or lower trim.
Two versions depending upon whether cold weather pack fitted or not (heated mirrors)
Checked using a 330S VIN and is part number 91029FG170
Looks as if it is no longer produced so 2nd hand only.
Partsouq, Amayama and Megazip - 0 or out of production
You should check with a dealer to confirm availability.
Can't find a full 330S unit! I'd guess a 2008-2010 STi unit fit, maybe even a WRX item?
Would a USA item fit/work? Found very similar code as in the diag 91031O subarupartsdeals.com
Elsa a JDM version?
I am not sure if there are aftermarket alternatives either in which case I need to change both sides!
The problem you have is that some Euro models came with larger ("forester style") mirrors than US and JDM models.
UK model with larger mirror as per the 330S (*FG170) which were also fitted to the regular MY08 > UK Hatch WRXSTI and Saloon WRXSTI upto MY2013 (NOT the WRX)
US model with smaller mirror (*FG150) similar to JDM
Back in the day I fitted the smaller JDM mirrors to my saloon.
In my case they had non heated glass and so had different plugs on them (two less pins requiring a work around). https://www.scoobynet.com/896843-my-...l#post10281860
Attached is a pdf with some useful info, if you don't already have
NOTE: If you change scalp caps heed the red warnings in the doc.
Found the item you originally pointed out, on Japanparts. £186 and £75 shipping! But it's not the heated unit. Any chance you have the heated mirror version part number? Argh, found it ... £220 plus £75 shipping! And no indicator, scalp cap and lower trim ... I guess they are easy ish to swap over, using your .pdf. And I have a workshop manual to hand... the bit in red warning on your PDF is confusing about claw B !
The lower claws (claws B) are difficult to access internally after removing the mirror glass and are easily broken.
Japanparts only list the SH Forester items by part code but which have different part numbers to the WRXSTI. Could be because the mounting plate at the door may be a different shape to match the Foresters steeper windshield angle but would imagine it could be swapped over from your old mirror. The base unit listed would appear to be the same for with or without indicator fitted.
UPDATE
After a deeper dive, it would appear that the indicators are only fitted to some Revision C (2011) on models and the Base unit for heated mirror and turn indicator has a different part number LH - 91029SC440 ; RH - 91029SC430
You may wish to check with Japanparts for the actual part number as they only show the Part codes which are the same for a multitude of items

So it's a heated mirror with indicators. From a forester. All down to the mounting plate shape. No idea how that would be removed to swap!
I've now compared part numbers for all the parts that make up the mirror assembly and the only ones that are the same are the indicator lamp assembly and the screw that secures it.
I have dug out one of my old original mirrors and photographed it in a similar orientation to the Japanparts image
Forester
WRXSTI
The actual mirror glass, to me, looks larger and a different shape on the WRXSTI mirror
As all the part numbers are different so you would be looking at a pair and also need to get the skull caps and lower trim caps to fit as well as a minimum.
Some auction pics of a 2011 Forester.
As for changing the mount, on the Japanpart images you can see on the under side of the arm a small slightly different colour plate with a hole in one end.
Using the hole and a suitable implement gently lever the cover up until it clears the casing and gently try and slide it out to clear the first clip.
You will see a small slot midway along one side of the cover which can be used with a trim tool to release the two rear clips.
Under the cover are the three screws holding the arm to the motor housing assembly.
You could also go for 2nd hand JDM Impreza/WRXSTI mirrors
Hi Don,
Many thanks for your efforts on this!
No tuners or spares places had a heated / indicator n/s mirror 2nd hand, I found "spares" on line ( Damn you AliExpress! ) and ordered what I thought was the insides of the mirror - motor, gears etc. - for a straightforward swap ... all that came was the motor! Ohh well!
Finally found a NEW unit at a dealer - main mirror and lower rear cover, top cover/scalp and indicator lens on way from Ja[pan ( 6 weeks! ) . Based on the UK part number you provided at the start of this thread!
BUT got the bits they had and swapped my indicator lens and colour coded scalp cap and Voila .. a fully working mirrir!
