I've just got a Witter towbar for a 2007 Hawkeye, for my bike rack, and was wondering if anyone has wired up towbar electrical connection for a Hawk? Most of the discussion seems to be earlier cars, and I'm unsure as to whether I can connect directly to the wiring of if it will lead to electronic problems....

From the Dealer website, a bypass relay is not required:

But from the car handbook:

".... requires modification to the vehicle's lighting circuit to increase its capacity and accommodate wiring changes. .... "

"Direct splicing or other improper connection of trailer lights may damage your vehicle's electrical system and cause a malfunction of your vehicle lighting system"

Has anyone tried it?

Might be worth looking around in the rear corner of the boot/wing to see if there's an unused 6, 8 or 10 pin white electrical connector, branching off the loom that goes to the rear-light cluster. If there is, it's a dead cert the car can have a towbar harness wired-up, assuming the right kit is used (something like this maybe).

Can't say I've fitted one myself though, as I drive a classic.

 

Hawk should have a 10 way connector for this - drivers side tucked away under the boot arch liner in the cavity if I recall.

Yes, it does have a 10-pin connector on the O/S behind the rear light cluster.

In case it's any use to anyone, here's the pinout:

1. Tail-lights (White/Red)
2. Tail-lights (Purple)
3. Brake lights (White/Black)
4. LH indicator (Black/Green)
5. RH indicator (Light Green/Black)
6. Fog lights (Blue/Yellow)
7. Earth (Black)
8. Earth (Black)
9. N/C
10. +12V (Blue/Red)

Nice info. Did you get that from putting a probe on each pin, or was it included in the circuit diagram?
