Default Intermittent starting problems....

Hello,

Ever since I got my car (96 sti) I have had an intermittent starting issue. Sometimes it will start, other times it won't or takes 20mins to start. Doesn't even turn over.

Checked the battery...11.9v....is this enough? After searching there are conflicting opinions. It had a new Bosch s4 battery in the summer.

Initially changed the ignition barrel as thought it was the key. No good.

Checked the voltage and earths to the starter. Checked the voltage to the solinoid when trying to start...11.8v

Could anyone help?

Cheers John

11.9V?
You are joking? You need around 13V for good starting, and 14+V off the alternator.

Get the battery checked by a decent car electrics place. If it's new-ish, get alternator checked too.

Thanks for the replies, yes have checked the earths.

It has an immobiliser but that seems to be working ok as a signal is getting to the starter.

Cheers I will get the battery checked
