defi oil temp sensor location?
quick quiz lads, i have 3 defi gauge setup and controller (bf series i think? oem green anyway with peak and warn) worked perfect up until my mot guy did an oil change for me and the oil temp gauge stopped working. i asked him about it and he said there isnt a sandwich plate at the filter but said there was a wire coming from the sump plug. would it be there as i didnt think that would be the best place for it to be? he took the cover off and had a look but said the wire was still connected etc but its still not working. annoying as hell as it worked fine before? could be a duff sensor is suppose but never missed a beat until he done the oil

Hmmmmmm.
It's likely he's either pulled the wiring off, disturbed it and it's burnt, or broken it, or refitted it with an oily thumb?
In any case, it's not in the right place.
The sender should be in an adaptor that costs about £8, which is placed in the tappings on top of No 3 cylinder, (driver's side, nearest driver, ie: towards rear of engine).
Since Subaru knew that N0 3 cylinder runs hottes, they put a tapping there for a gauge...daft not to use it. There is a bung in it now which needs a long 8mm hex key to get it out.
The adpator is here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-OIL...item20ed211b5d , it's the brass one in the centre, they SHOULD sell it separate.
Forget sandwich plates, they are the lazy man's way and give falsely low readings.
Do it once: do it right.
They do it on it's own: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MSE-Perform..._sid=235832231

Cheers alcazar. I had prosport gauges on my classic wagon and got the sensor fitted in the bung at cylinder 3 but wasn't sure if defi sensors were the same. I assumed it was a sandwich plate as he only done the oil and filter and shouldnt have disturbed anything else. Will have to get under the bonnet and have a look.
