Default Low fuel light broken?

I've just bought a '56 plate hawkeye wrx estate and am playing Russian roulette at the moment with the fuel gauge I think because it's hovering right over the E line, but still no fuel light has come on. Makes me think that the bulb might be duff - can anyone let me know around when in the last quarter of the gauge the light generally comes on? Cheers, Tim

i thought mine was broke on my first wrx too, the light dosn't come on until it hits the empty line or below, when the light did come on i could get at least another 25 miles and the needle goes well below empty.
