Default Switch on Accelerator Pedal

Hi,
does anyone know for what that small switch on the Accelerator Pedal is used for?.That Switch is activated through the slightest pressure.
Can't find it inside the Technical Manual.
I found it as i was re-adjusting the pedal free play.
The free play my acc-pedal has might be wanted to press that switch without opening throttle. As far as that free play gets on my nerves i'd like to get rid of it, but without knowing what that switch does....might be bad.
The Car is a 1994 JDM STI.

Only pre97 reference I've found...........

Could it be part of the early model idle control circuit/throttle position sensor circuit?????

I don't think the two you've shown are necessarily related. The early TPS does have a switch built in that signals the fact that the throttle is closed and is probably used to tell the ecu to go in to idle mode (totally unnecessarily, since the TPS itself gives this information).

I'm wondering if the accelerator switch is to do with cruise control perhaps?

Hence the ???? Seems to be only used on the turbo model and only on the MY94-96

CC utilises brake and clutch switches.

The only other accelerator switch, I know off, is the autobox kickdown switch.........

Thats the Switch, but it seems its not direct connected to the ecu.
As the Throttle Pos. Sensor is.

Could it be something for the A/C System?
I Agree if it is a Switch who tells the ECU "throttle is shortly beeing opened" it might be neccessary due to the Throttle Pos Sensor.

Perhaps i should set it on permanently pressed or just open its Plug-in connection and see if something behaves different.

It could be,(A/c cutout at idle) , but can't find it on any other diagrams that I have access to for those models.

Could be your best option to find out what it does. I assume the wiring just disappears into the loom??
