Default Stainless steel headers

Was out for a run yesterday on my way back from belfast just coming off the rathbeg roundabout when I gave her a wee bit only to lose all boost and hear the noise of a chieftain main battle tank in full flight erupt from the front end

Limped down to cars n stuff to have a look and one of the pipes on my headers had split.

Heading down there today to remove the headers and repair

( Bummer too cause I was meant to be going christmas shopping with the missus )

I guess every cloud really does have a silver lining lol

All I need to figure out now is why it split

is there a flexi in it ok? my manifold split on my ibiza a few times because it was too rigid and stainless steel is more brittle than mild steel.

It's usually the ones with the flex in that do split, and its usually at the flex where it happens, quite common on Megan Racing and copies of it where the up-pipe and manifold are all one piece.

A decent stainless manifold with slip joins in the cross over pipes can be bought for just under £400 all in, and an up-pipe with slip joint about £125 these allow for the expansion and contraction that takes place without failing.

Yeah good old ebay but hey they will be fixed got them off today so getting them welded tonight wasn't the welds that had failed although there is a hair line crack at 1 of them, the crossover pipe had sheared about 10mm from the weld, the flexi appears to be in good condition.
I had seen the headers with the slip joints now I know I should have paid that wee bit extra life and subaru ownership just 1 big learning curve

Just received their response :-

Hello Rob

Sorry to hear that you have had a problem with one of our products. We have actually stopped stocking these manifolds as we had a few fitment issues. I do believe however that we may have one left. I will check. If we have I will get it sent out to you right away.

Again sorry for the inconvenience

Kind Regards

Ollie

I wouldent bother spending money welding them up and re fitting, I know a number of people who done that and not to long they failed again. Id put that money to a decent set.
