Am I too old?

Am I too old?
In the next few weeks I'm going to be the owner of a Bugeye WRX which, unsurprisingly, I intend to start tinkering with. I was talking about this to some of those I work with and they all immediately started to joke about being a boy racer. This was probably no surprise coming from people who only see a car as something to get from A to B and others who get off on diesel fuel consumption figures, however it has got me wondering about the local scene.
As someone who as been interested in cars for the past 20 years (mostly MG's and kit cars) I am keen to take a wider interest in the local Subaru scene and to attend a few runs etc. but at 40 years old, while I still feel, and often act 20, the boy racer image is worrying me. My point is, is there a wide age range involved in shows, runs etc.

It's starting to sound better already. Is that your own bra your talking about Fabio? its just I've heard that there are a few big girls at the odd show - not that I'd be interested in that sort of thing at my age.

mate im 33, had my 1st show car built by me and dad at 16, i have nearly finished my scoobaru and will proabably spend the whole winter working on a 400bhp history re-writing corsa, i too work with ppl with phd's and each and everyday get "boy-racer" and mate il tell ya this "ppl will only annoy ya if you let them inside your head to annoy ya and brian they aint in my head mate" so listen to what you wanna hear and forget the rest, lifes to damn short, each time you fire the bug eye up and it growls back you'll smile - i gaurantee it and your hassle from work will disapear.
never be put off, i done 5 years voluntary work on a traffic calming measures with the psni getting kids to slow down and still i get "boy-racer"
all we'll say to you is - welcome to our world and we need a bug eye for shows, you in?

Once I get the Bugeye I'm definitely in. To be honest Geoffo, I just feel sorry for for some of the slaggers, they probably wish they had the ***** to drive something a bit different. One I get the exhaust sorted, they mightn't like it, but they'll not be able to ignore it. I think I am going to enjoy all this.

39 here. Boy racers cant afford (a) the fuel or (b) the insurance for scoobs.
I get that in work - mid life crisis and all that. Ive driven different cars since I could drive and can finally afford the luxury of a car that is expensive to run and keep. Pisses people off that you know.

Thanks lads
It's great to see that others think the same way. Its only now a 40 I can insure and run a car that means that I enjoy every journey I take (of course in every previous comment I have made I have failed to mention the wife - have to keep the first few mods under the bonnet).
