1- no list available yet AFAIK

2- about 75 quid for a very well run, well marshalled event, well worth it in my humble opinion.

Andy,

This might sound a bit stupid but I'm new to the area. Where is Kirkistown, and what's the track like. I would certainly be interested - I've been promising myself a track day for a while now,

www.trackskills.com
above is the site for the Co that run the track events that I am talking about and use most.
Below is a site that give plenty of info on the circuit and how to get there, even though it is for bikes.

It can be quite hard on tyres as most of the corners are longish and sort of quick. Mostly pass side front tyre gets it. Other than that, I have found at normal track days in the past ( dry track ) that unless some corners are added the track is actually quite boring. No real tight corners as such.. the track is too big and wide open. It may be better in the wet, as then there will be a good bit of room to slide, but I find that Nutts Corner is a lot more fun, as there are a lot mre tight bends to contend with.
Im not sure how the trackskills bit works, or what the difference is between that, and one of the usual RS Owners club trackdays, apart from the much higher price.
Does 'well marshalled' mean that if you do slide a car to try and have some fun, you will get sent off??

I have never seen anyone sent off from a trackskills event, Its not that rough on tyres, but that said even with higher pressures you do get a fair amount of wear. I have done it many times and have yet to get bored of it.

I was under the impression that the RSOC was no longer using kirkistown and nutts corner was now their only option.

Its been a while since I have been to a track day. The last one was at the start of 2002, and even tho they make you join the RSOC, they dont seem to send any info about the trackdays out, like they used to before 2001. Any in 2001 I went to, I had heard of by word of mouth even though I was a member. In 2002, I only heard of the first event, where again I joined, and heard nothing more about the rest of the year. Id have to say that the organisers of that event were pretty poor, allowing some complete idiots in twincams on the track conitinuosly, despite being driven dangerously, and being very slow cars.
Dont get me wrong, I did enjoy Kirkiston when I was there before, but the track had been coned off, to add a few corners. If the full track was to be sued, then I think it would be much less enjoyable. The times I was there were good, but not very challenging, added to that, there some very slow cars ( more twincams, and similar **** ) on the track too, that I always got stuck behind, as the organisers didnt seem to like any overtaking.
The trackskills days may be better organised, and run differently, but I have never been to one. Partly because IMO £75 is a lot of money and about twice the price of an RSOC day.
I disagree about you saying it is not hard on tyres. You musnt have been driving hard enough. A good days driving on a dry track seen my new P-Zeros take a fair bashing, especially the outer edges, and mostly the front passenger side as the track is run in a clockwise direction. As with any track, the brakes also take a fair bit of abuse.
What sort of turnout, and cars have previously attended these days??? Is it full of **** cars like twin cams, or is there a good variety of good performance cars??

Went up to kirkiston today at about 11am. half a dozen guys from down south including Paul Mcloughlin from Mac's Power with his legacy. really nice machine real grunty exhaust and it could fair shift as well. guy there with a black integra which he allegedly only paid 600 euro for. did a wee bit of work to the engine yet he was wiping the floor with everyone. other motors up today, mk1 and a couple of mk2 escorts, porsche boxter, golf gti, old style mini. the mechanics that came with mac's power brought up an old 2.0l sierra. paid 100 euro for it and had a great days craic. one of the guys organising the event took me round for 3 laps in his bmw 320d, and i tell ya those things can shift, feels like you are going far faster than you think. still doing 110 thru debtors corner is an experience.

£75 tho is alot of money and i didnt partake i'm afraid, because 1. i am a crap driver and 2. i would be scared of writing her off. (the boxster had and arguement with the tire wall at the chicane past colonnial) later on in the day.

i was sorry that not many scoobs turned up. i was the only impreza there. we had the racy boys in their clios and saxos (why do they bother?) but they didnt make it onto the track.

An experience to say the least, and if i haven't written the car off by june and a few more ppls turn up, i may have to sign on the dotted line give her a go.

cheers
