Convoy to the tunnel ????
#1
Only 16 days to go
Is anyone planning any Convoys down to the tunnel ?
The Honda contingement will be leaving from Stratford upon-Avon
and i guess driving to the Ring we should do in samll groups, certainly last time with 16 cars, it gets a little tricky.
Whats peoples thoughts ??

Err better get my A to Z of Europe then.
Agree with Harj the 1st petrol stop was highly frustrating.
I think i will print off a copy of the how to get to the Ring info off Bens site.

I think that the best thing to do is to meet at the Chunnel. I'm going to aim to be there at 9ish in order to sort out one or two things. This means leaving Warwick at 6am given the traffic etc. Anyone wanting to meet, catch up can find me on the M40 from about 6:10! LOL
As far as the Calais to Nurburg journey goes, I've no problem leading a group(s). Don't mind how big it is, but will be stopping once in Calais, and once just before Eupen. I will be cruising at 90 ish, no faster, given the "slower" cars in the convoy, and aim to take about 4 - 4.5 hours for the entire journey. After all, it's only 290 miles.
Bens site does give a good map, so you can use it. It'll be the same route as I'm taking.
Like Matt said, it's a pain in the **** to stop for hours when filling up etc. Probably the best thing to do is for each car to get themselves a detailed map of Germany and it's Belgian border, so that if you do get split from the group, it's easy to find your way to Nurburg. Look at Mapblast or similar for directions.
Above all, I'll be handing out my mobile number to anyone who wants it, and you can always call me if you get lost.
Cheers

I will be leaving Stratford about 6ish, so i may see you on the M40.
Im going to print off a load of directions, just in case.
I will be taking a couple of spare tyres this time just in case (195 55 15's) of emergency for the Honda contingement.
Just remember Gents i have the smallest tank.

I'll be all on my lonesome, obeying all the speed limits through France and Belgium. I'll have a PMR on, on channel 2 1 if you want to hurl abuse as you go by! (Black Octavia with twin pipes and a Ring sticker, probably badged as a 1.4i )I'm on the 0920 train thingy. See you all for the afternoon session I suppose.
OI Askew, 45 to the gallon?? I can only manage 40mpg ( )travelling at the speedlimit, but I have a 10.5 gallon tank, so we must have about the same range.

TypeR,
I seem to remember the reason for your tank range being pants is due to 110mph fly bys in 4th gear for the benefit of the video, and of course our benefit 'cos it sounded great

Chris,
That couldn't be because you and Chris and Ian got lost last year ...... could it?! LOL
Follow Chris's advice and get a map book though peeps. Having said that, I'll probably end up doing my Pied Piper bit again!

Hey Guys! Don't blame me
I was only driving lol
But yes, buying a map before you get lost is sound advice Chris
Also don't run out of Petrol in the middle of Holland! Then after a 6 mile hike to obtain petrol, Find the only petrolstation that dont sell *(&^*&* petrol cans.
If thats not bad enough, then have the 3 of you be taken hostage by the local Taxi driver who insists on taking you to the nearest Bar, to collect his psychotic friend before he will help you out.
And that was before we got lost in Germany LOL I can laugh about it now, but at the time I wished the ground would open up.
Have a good trip guys, and if you hear Sal giving directions over the radio go the other way! LOL

Mark Khan, Ben Pike and Myself will probably stick with the main convoy 'till the first petrol stop then shoot off.
Will also have PMR radio on 2.1 (seems the freq of choice).
Happy for others to join the group (2 Scoobs and a Civic).
James.

All,
Matt and I are going to meet at the southbound Warwick services on the M40 at 06:00 on Friday morning (3rd May). Anyone who'd like to travel with us to the Chunnel is more than welcome. However, we'll leave about 5 mins after meeting up, so if we've gone by the time you get there, unlucky!
Cheers

Should get to the M25 by about 7 ish, and miss the worst traffic which tends to start at about 8 am. That's the plan at least. I do this trip a fair amount, and know that 10 minutes is all it takes between a clear motorway and a car park! still, once clear of the M4 we should be OK! Fingers Crossed
