Catalunya Rally
#1
I'm just trying to plan holidays for next year, and one plan is to drive down to Spain for the Catalunya Rally. I know people from Scoobynet have gone in the past - can you point me towards info on stage locations, accommodation etc???
Thanks,
Nick

Tom... I'd *love* to. I was drooling all over my keyboard over your stickered up P1 last year & the idea of Spain in spring
I've seen a few rallies, but never a WRC one ...
Do you guys rent a place, or go for a hotel ?
Let me rephrase that: I'm in LOL. Where do I sleep ?

Theo,
Last year (well this year) we stayed in a hotel that I believe Pete and SIDC had stayed in previously...its an ideal location circa 5/10 mins walk from the centre of town.
Rooms were clean and tidy, food was OK (well we only ever had breakfast in )...staff friendly etc etc....the main bonus was that it has secure underground parking for the Scoobs
Cost, I can't remember...but put it this way...it won't break the bank!!!
Hats off to Pete Croney, Mark Coleman, and all the others involved in finding such an excellent base
I believe that Pete is looking to organise another trip for 2002...and I hope (and am guessing) that it will be the same hotel...
I understand that as with previous years and due to time constraints etc, Pete and others are travelling down UK - Spain overnight by car...basically Eurostar....round Paris....then straight down south...arriving probably...mid afternoon I guess on the Tuesday ...then probably, returning Sunday afternoon/early evening after the rally...
on the other hand...a few of us (all subject to confirmation) are planning to take the ferry from Plymouth to Santander...this will involve us leaving on Sunday...and then taking the ferry back on the Monday after the rally....this is mainly due to us having a little more time to play with...but also I was so completely "cream crackered" after the last overnight trip....I/we fancied an over night sleep on the ferry (and maybe a beer or 2 )and a slightly more relaxed trip across Spain on the Monday after we dock.
The ferry also means that we can "have a few" at the party after the rally on the Sunday evening ...which, in reality, adds to the fun....I'm sure .
Cost wise....the ferry is circa £400.00 return for 1 car and 2 people with aircraft type seats to sleep on....its a little more for a cabin...fuel wise...not sure..I can't remember what is cost me last time...but by landing at Santander, the fuel bill should be a little less...evening out the increased cost due to the ferry...
Hope this is a little interest..
All the best
Tom
P.S. The new STI 7 Type UK Prodrive...will be FULLY sighwritten again this year!!!

Hey Richard,
Where are you getting the £52 return flights from ?
Best I can manage with easyJet is £75 return.
Any recommendations for hotel, car hire etc ?
This will be my first WRC rally, well looking forward to it and it'll be great to meet up with some of you southerners
Andrew.

ps Theo...stay at mine matey - as long as you bring ya stunning wife ... oh bollox my missus is coming next year...****

Rich, my wife just told me she would be delighted to have me gone for a week (uh oh ? ) so that's me out on the apartment deal... I wouldn't want to wake up and see you dressed in pink anyway .
But more seriously, I would come down with my own car, and I do like the ability to park my car in a safe spot ... In Lloret the least damage would surely be someone puking on my car, and I don't want to bring my WW kit to Spain
Tom, I guess it would be a bit daft for me to take the Eurostar to get to Plymouth for the ferry , it might be easier for me to just drive down there (about 12 hours I guess).
A plan is slowly forming... I would probably arrive Wed evening and leave on Monday morning. Would you want to keep me informed on the hotel booking (not worried about prices etc.., just thought it would be convenient.)

OK,
That's the flights booked on easyJet, and just waiting on confirmation from the hotel (thanks Rum ).
Can anyone (Rich) recommend the best place to hire a car from at Barcelona Airport ? There's just the two off us, and not much luggage. Would prefer something with a bit of get up and go, although obviously not up to scooby standards
12 weeks and counting
Edited to say maybe Richard could suggest a hire car company as opposed to asking for someone loaded with money to suggest one
Andrew.
Edited again 'cause Rum made me look like a numptie
