There are unconfirmed reports that the 555 club of Holland will be going to the Nurburgring this October. I for one will be joining them.

Please let me know if you are interested so that I can get a mailing list together.

I don't know which weekend they're planning to be there but it's probably 7&8 or 14&15. They're a great bunch of guys in my experience and love their modifications. Most speak English too. Handy for translating what the local friendly Subaru dealer is saying. Don't ask, it's a long story. It was quite a sight (& sound) when they drove through Breitscheid in convoy whilst I was having lunch "al fresco" last month.

I'll probably be out there anyway, I don't need an excuse to go. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any other UK Subarus loitering in the parking area in case anyone wants a guide, but please don't scare me. I don't claim to be an expert but I know which way the track goes. The Nurburgring is like nothing in the UK and is more suited to Subaru antics than the UK circuits in my opinion.

Colin, I'm gonna propose 14 & 15 on the Dutch board. 7 & 8 is a bit difficult, as the 8th is an election day in Belgium, and we don't get to choose whether we go vote or not...

Tony, hope your car got sorted in the end last month? Don't know if "he with the same first name as mine" wil be there, as he might be in between cars at that mo...

Guys, you might want to take up Tony's offer ... I think he has done two or three rounds before on that circuit

Count me in as well.
I went at easter last year and the place is fantastic- best weekend i have ever had. Brilliant fun ( but scary at the same time) just beware the locals in their golfs astras audis etc they know the circuit like the back of their hand and they are very very quick. even the BMW dealers has only race prepped cars and overalls from touring car drivers on display and all the bars are motoring museums

Petrolhead Paradise!!

Think we're gonna head for 14/15.

Andy is right: when you get there, and you see a crappy car pass you like you were standing still, don't try to follow them... even though your car is potentially a lot faster, you will get in serious trouble.

Damn, how am I gonna explain to SWHOMBO* that I really have to do Zolder & the Ring in the same week

Thanks Evil B,

The car is sorted once again. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, having stopped off at Spa for the F1 qualifying and a lap of the circuit. Much cheaper than having it fixed in the UK. I don't expect that our mutual friend will be there, but his spoiler will be.

The Dutch boys are very restrained on track and don't play with the crappy cars. I know, I passed three Dutch Imprezas on one lap with the Puma 1.4 replacement car. Knowledge of the track is worth alot of time, around three minutes per lap, I reckon. Far more valuable than an additional 140bhp. It's very much a case of drive at your own speed. There will always be someone quicker. Happily there will always be someone slower too. Unless you're an accountant from Genk! Works out cheaper if you go slower?

Good luck Colin. If you're going to Silverstone on Sunday we can have a word. You're the Burger King, right?

Those interested in the Ring and when other UK people will be there in October would do well to join the Ringers mailing list at

How to get there
Calais to the Ring
Executive summary: E40 - E42 - E40 - N67 - A258 - Ring.
Take the E40 towards Lille (the Chunnel terminal at Coquelles drops you straight on to the E40, and it's well-signposted from the docks)
When the E40 and E42 split near Dunkerque, take the E42 to Lille
(you can take the E40 around Brussels all the way there, but this is slightly better)
At Lille, follow signs to Bruxelles until you're away from the town.
(You still want the E42, but I've never spotted any signs for it. You don't want to end up in Lille town centre. It's really hard to recover from that mistake (don't ask me how I know!))
After Lille, stay on the E42 to Mons (Belgium)
Stay on the E42 to Liège
Now you've got two choices ... If you're on a bike or in a car, you'll enjoy the first of these. If you're in a van or towing a trailer, the second is better.
The fun way
Rejoin the E40 (having shortcutted the circuitous bit) and head towards Aachen
After 20k (and before Aachen), turn onto the N67 to Eupen (junction 38 of the E40).
In Eupen, head for Monschau / N67
(going into Eupen you come to traffic lights at a T-junction. A small sign indicates you go right then immediately left. The left isn't signed to Monschau ... it has about a hundred other places including Hôpital)
Out of Eupen, find yourself on a pothole and subsidence demonstrator
(This is an awful road - the worst on the trip)
Cross the border from Belgium to Germany
(a slight kink in the road, a small sign, and the fact that the road surface improves are the only clues)
After Eupen, stay on the N67 to Monshau
After Monshau, turn onto the B258
Have a great drive on the B258 (it's a fantastic road!) on through Schleiden and Blankenheim, all the way to the Ring.
The non-bumpy way
Between Liège and Aachen, take the E42 towards Verviers and Malmedy
At Prüm, take the B410 East
At Kelberg, take the B257 north (left at traffic lights)
A couple of miles later, this joins the B258 at the GP circuit.
Getting to the Self-drive centre
(indicated here by a big red blob and a big red arrow)
If you've come the fun way, you'll approach down the B258 from Aachen/Monschau/Blankenheim, and eventually start seeing signs to Nürburgring. (Coming in from the top left of the map). You'll go past the GP complex (under the track) and see small signs to "Zufahrt Nordschleife" (self-drive). This takes you along the right of the long straight, although I don't think you can see it.

A right turn loops around 270°, under the road and the track, and loop around again to T onto a minor road parallel to the straight on the other side. Turn right ...

(Alternatively, if you miss the right turn, you pass a petrol station (the nearest one to the track) and hotel on the right, and then turn left, under the track, and then immediately left onto the same minor road)

There's a mini roundabout with a big shiny triangular sculpture (representing the Ring) ... Nürburg is straight on, the self-drive centre is on the left (impossible to miss). To be precise, the toll gate is 50°20.78'N, 6°57.97'E :-)

The time for the Nurburgring is getting closer. Im not getting a massive response to this event. If you want to go I am happy (with some help I think I've just been offered) to arrange ferries/hotels etc but I need names.
So come on you miserable lot, help me out with this one

Prefer Ferry Crossing as Train crossing for more than 24hrs return is expensive.

Colin, that was supposed to be a surprise, now you spoiled it

As far as the list is concerned, John Felstead and Harj have confirmed me twice on 22B chat that they would like to come as well. You might want to get in touch with JF.

There will be about 5 to 10 Dutch cars as well, probably more.

And of course all the other nutters from all over the world who are there anyway...

Colin,

Can you let me know where you guys are staying so that I can either book the same place or get in somewhere nearby if I decide to go that weekend. How many takers do you have now?

Anders is soring out the hotel accomodation. I have checked ferry fares and they are as follows.

Note: I have looked at travelleing at about 20:00 on the Friday and 16:30 on the Sunday.

Sea France 122
P & O 143
Eurotunnel 191

With only 70 pounds in it I think the eurotunnel would be best. Let me know what you think.

I will be going in my westfield

Harj should be in his 300BHP WRX
Matt in his civic type R
and maybe Matt on his Bonkers Superbike
Hopefully Anders will be in his 22B after yet another engine rebuild
shaunee will be along for the ride too.

I will speak with anders tonight about the accomodation.

Do we have to book in advance for cross chanell ferries/eurotunell??

I will find out which they prefer tonight.
