Hi all ....

I've recieved an 'ickle mail shot from the SIDC for a day in Holland at the 555 club of Holland birthday party ....

I take it all SIDC members will get it in a mail shot so does anyone think it's worth it for a day, how much cost ( as that's going to be the big decider ) is involved in a trip to Holland.

I'm off there and a bit further into Europe later in the year and the cost of a 2 week return is quite steep nudging £180 return (Dover-Calais). Is it possible to negoitiate a "bulk" ticket if a few are going on the same crossing ?

Many interested ?

If you go Harwich - Hook of Holland it saves a lot of hassle, journey is longer on the ferry though, will try to see how much it would be.

£165 per car plus 22 each additional passenger gives you up to 5 days to return after you arrive at Hook of Holland,

leaves Harwich at 10:55 and arrives at 15:25

Just one option,

Yep Or you could row across

Great isnt it, I didnt know anything about it until i got the mailshot this morning either

Doesnt work out horrendous if you share the costs with about 50 other people though

Ian ..

Is it possible to get discount on a large amount of cars ...... but I suppose they can fill the boats any way so perhaps not

I've just mailed a mate to see if he wants to come to help split my cost but then it halves the amount of cars ..... and yes Stef some rich hot dogs they'll be !!

Dont know mate, I suppose the only way to be certain is find out how many would go, then ask them ?

It would be cheaper to go to Calais and drive up I suppose, will look into that, not sure how long it takes to drive that route though ?

I think I'll wait to see how much interest there is, I'm keen ( without sleeping on it !! ) but if it's gonna cost the earth to get there it "may" not be worth it .....

we'll see ..

Poss up for this

Thinking about Eurotunnel & a blast on an awayday type trip. I am sure u can pre-book for around £50 return. Then its just juice for x (how many?) miles. Not even an early start as its meet time @ 15.00 UK.

The idea of loads of UK scoobs cruising through France, Belgium & Holland...

I feel a convoy coming on

I would say its a case of make a weekend of it if you go, that way it doesnt hurt so much, but at 165 quid its a bit pricey i must admit.

Hi all..

A convoy through Europe .... that sounds fun, I could stomach the £70 return fare as well, just depends on what exactly is on offer when we get there and how many miles / hours behind the wheel prior / after the " bit of a do ".

I've had no luck tracking down a web site for either the 555 club of Holland or the venue ..anyone else found anything ??

Question

I got a single piece of orange paper which said 555 Club Birthday Party.

Unfortunately that was it. Presumably there was meant to be some more information with it. Anyone care to post a summary of the main details?

Just checked again in case I was being stupid - nothing printed on he back of mine!!

Is there nothing on the back of it ???

Basically it says The 555 Club of Holland is celebrating its 5th Birthday on Saturday 13th May at 4pm local time, 25 miles from Hook of Holland, £8 for the hot and cold buffet afterwards, with party and live music etc.

Kev Seeing as no-one else has posted to say Yay or Nay....myself and the woman are interested in a trip to Holland and think that a boat full of Scoobs loading or unloading, then all travelling together would be good. Create a bit of a stir.

Yes I'm interested too.

If we 'save' money going the Hook way surely it'll equal out going the Tunnel/Calais route as the fuel
costs will be greater with the extra driving.

Either way I'm interested and I think it is most definitely worth making a weekend out of it.

Tim

I've found an advert/feature in todays Mail on Sunday, P&O Stennaline offering a 24 hour ticket flexible ( 24hrs in France ) to be used by 25th May £47 and it includes car and upto 5 passengers and 24 bottles Grolsch all inc 0800 600 7744 quoting "mail on Sunday offer" ..

they also do some cheaper with less time .. as cheap as £19 with the beer !

I'd better chase my passport application up !!

so anyone up for helping me make the ramp ? I've sourced some hardboard - I made a scale model today and to my camculations we need 2 1/2 miles of run up - could we organise a few road blocks ? I also think we should get a job lot of life jackets just incase we get any bad turbulance or cross winds blowing us off course. - seriously though - I'd be interested in going oversease in the scooby - I have no plans made for holidays this year. The cheaper the better - any thoughts on camping near the venue ?

I went to Holland a few times last year and the catermaran from Harwich is my prefered method.

There's nothing in it, time wise, but the cat saves a lot of miles and there are good cafe's etc on board.

If you are planning this as a weekend, Amsterdam is approx 45 minutes from the Hook and well worth a visit. Great nightlife, very safe and a real eye opener to us stiff upper lip Brits!!

To all UK scooby enthusiasts,
Hope some of you guys will be able to join us at the Dutch 555 5th anniversary party in Zuidland. The event indeed will take place on saturday may 13th at 16.00 hrs Holland time. I think you'll just have to send a message to the english spoken part of the dutch Bulletin Board Service

Here a suggestion from a Dutch Scooby fanatic: travel with the ferry of P & 0 North Sea Ferries HULL to ROTTERDAM (Europoort). This is only 19 km away from Zuidland, where the party will be held.
Travelling via Hoek van Holland is a trip of 43 km. On a saturday you may have to cope with heavy traffic in the surroundings of Rotterdam.
