Default double din to single din............how?

i have an 04 wrx that had a double din unit but it was kept by the previous owner,i have a pioneer headunit spare that i want to fit so i brought a single din conversion pocket from a member on here but i have a problem

the pocket and the headunit wont fit in the hole, what do i need to make them fit? surely a double din is the same width as a single din?

You need the brackets off the side of the double din, you basically screw them to the side of the single din unit and storage bin then the whole lot fits back in as a double din sized block. Previous poster is right should take less than a half hour.
