Default Knock Link

Hi All

when i had my first scooby about 6 years ago, i bought all the gauges & had a Link Systems Knocklink & i am after another one now.

heres a link to one i have found, http://www.mocomracing.com/product_d...&cat=15&sub=33

but does anyone know of any other places that sell them? I.e better price!

I am wanting to remove the casing & install the LED's on my dash or speedo surround.

Thanks

afaik them ones are discontinued. the new one is better as you can set the knock level and it gives you an alert when goes above. pm aztec about one

cheers MarkC, i was guessing that the aztec ones would be better, but as mentioned i would like to remove the LED's from the casing to mount them, so i do not have the 'bulk' of the unit to mount somewhere. Also the new style in the GB are a lot more money which can not stretch to as this easter weekend i am having a V8 UK sti short bock fitted with a few other nice parts

Stick a post in the wanted section, bet somebody has go one laying around. Hell of a lot of money for what is some very basic circuitry. I did the same as you and mounted the LEDs in the speedo surround. Was nice and unobtrusive but also noticeable if the big red LED was lighting up

I have both KnockLink and LambdaLink.

The control boxes for both are out of sight. The LEDs for the K/L are around my fuel pressure gauge, which is at eye level on my A-pillar, those for the L/L are along the bottom right hand edge of the speedo surround.

If you are doing this job, DO mount any LEDs facing you, not facing downwards, or upwards, but facing the driver, or you WILL be disappointed with the results.

Whilst there is a big price difference, the ability of the two kits is vastly different.

An engine can det without the KL picking it up, the KS3/4 is far more sophisticated and will pick it up long before KL.

I've been nagging Phormula to come up with a budget alternative to the KL and they simple won't do it, not because they aren't able to, but because they won't put there name to something that doesn't do the job properly.

If you're in any doubts, speak to either Anthony at Phormula or give me a call.

And why should they, when they can sell the dearer one at TWICE the price of the cheap one........which DOES do the same job, since, afaik, it uses the same sensor?

The system includes high quality Bosch Wideband Knock Sensor i.e. the same sensor the Knocklink and your ECU uses, it's just a piezoelectric microphone FFS, they all have the same bandwidth. It is however necessary to applying some filtering to differentiate between what is just engine noise and pinking / det. For each engine this will be at a specific frequency as it will hit a resonance in the cylinder bore, so the filter needs to be configured for that. This device does therefore seem to make it slightly more engine specific by being able to program the expected knock frequency however the calculator you use on their website just takes piston diameter as an input so I wouldn't rely on the expected frequency. I suspect the filter is wide enough to allow a bit either way. After that it basically just turns volts from the microphone, post filtering, into a digital display. Exactly what the KnockLink did. I can't therefore understand how this could be any better, except it is nicer to look at

Never had any problems detecting knock on mine with the good old row of LEDs

ive fitted a knock link this week that i bought second hand of ebay, im seeing the amber lights at higher revs, i was told to adjust it to its most sensitive setting by my local subaru specialist, but the instructions say it needs to be adjusted correctly, my forged engine was built and mapped 1yr ago by API so im confident its not a problem with the engine or mapping, can anyone give me any advice on how to get it working properly, thanks

I'd be inclined to get someone who knows to go out with you with a pair of det cans on.

Mine showed some knock when it was being mapped, but Bob Rawle could hear none through the det cans, so we assumed it was set too sensitive.

Ive got it booked in for a diagnostics check on tuesday with my local ecutek mapper, although he did data log it out about a month ago and told me it was running sweet with no det present, i cant really see that anything would have changed to be honest, personally i think the knocklink is set to sensitive, ive adjusted it today, a quarter of a turn and the orange lights are not showing now, to be fair ive been driving it for the past year with no problems, i also had a chat with david from api he suggested it was set to sensitive and not to worry, i think it probably just a big dose of paranoia that comes with subaru ownership, thanks for the reply mate.

Paranoia: Yep, still got it, been told off by Harvey for it

Better to be paranoid and careful than have the engine let go again, though

I've got one of the knockgauge.eu units to go in mine and will see how it performs next time Simon(JGM) maps it - if it appears ok it's a bargain at £35!!
