Default How much of the interior can i remove?

Hi there,

I have a MY95 WRX which I got on the cheap as a weekend toy and I have started removing some of the interior I(carpets, rear seatsm, trim) but I'm wondering how much I can remove before it will fail the MOT?

Surely there has to be a limit?

Also, I'm sure the sound proofing on my old Pulsar GTIR stopped rust? Is this the same on an Impreza?

Many thanks for your help

Also whilst I'm at it, is there any issues removing the heater matrix and joining the 2 pipes in the engine bay together to bypass it?

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere recently that the heater helps to trigger the thermostat, and without it your car will run too hot.

Thermostats usually just work off of a bi metal type of arrangement and open at a certain temp??? Dont see how the heater matrix will change this.
I believe its a MOT requirement to have a blower to demist the screen but if you left the ***** in place when was the last time your demist system was tested!

My 205 Rally car has only the dash left in place and aluminium door cards in the front and that went through the MOT just fine. I dont think that interior is a big hitter for the MOT.

What you thinking of removing? Maybe thats a better angle to ask on here.

I was always under the impression it whats left thats of more interested MOT time. I.e. if you have a spare it has to be legal...bin the spare then. If you have rear seats don't remove the seatbelts etc etc...

I was going to remove everything possible to make it very light. I have been on this website MOT Inspection Manual, testing guide, road testing, health & safety and there is no mention of it. I will see how much it weighs in at then see if its worth looking into further.

hello mate as far as the mot goes if its not there you dont have to test it,
you must have oviously a drivers seat and and belt or harness, dont need a spare or demister for the screen, switchs for lights must have warning lights when on in side and with in reach of the driver, doors must open from inside and outside, must have two forms of rear view(mirrors) and one must be drivers side mirror.
So if you want to strip the lot haha good luck
