04 stereo removal
can anyone out there give me detailed description on the removal of a stereo as the rubbish standard one has to go for a nice double din sat nav unit!!!!
You need to remove the dash trim then the brackets that hold the stereo on.
Open your cup holder and use the space that gives you to pull on the top of the stereo surround/heater controls. You need to pull quite hard and this panel will just 'pop' off complete with the heater controls etc.
Now you need to undo the screws that hold the stereo bracket to the car, three each side and two below on a small supporting bar - use a very magnetic screwdriver or risk losing the screws!
The stereo should now come out complete with the brackets attached to the sides, remove the screws and replace the stereo with your new unit, and then refit. I'd suggest getting a loom adaptor so you don't need to cut the cars wiring - Subaru to ISO should do it although you may need to hack the adaptor about this is preferable to cutting the cars wiring.
Think about it though - do you really want to take your eyes that far off the road for your Sat Nav?
