Double Din In A Classic, Anyone done it?

Default Double Din In A Classic, Anyone done it?

Wanting to put a double din system in the P1, appreciate I need to move a couple of switches and need a new cnsole front panel, question is which front panel and is it possible?

Pics would be a great help

Yes, it should be possible. At a guess you'd need the centre console section from an import (1998-2000) as these have double-din anyway.

I thought you needed the STi heater controls as the UK cars are recessed where as the STi's are flush with the rest of the trim (I'm explaining it badly, a picture might help..)

Sorry only just seen this, not got any further, still debating if to go motorised screen, looking at making the decision in a couple of months, waiting to see if prices drop

And yes your correct re heater controls, have that to sort out as well

OK,made a start last night, wanted to see if it could be done before ordering the double din this week,
Sorted the heater controls, currently they mount behind the mounting bracket on a UK car, ours now don't, they mount in front of the panel, had to get a junior hack saw and trim the lugs, but now fit's flush with the back of the heater panel.
Must state here that even though I have rimmed the panel, I can still go back to single din if needed & you would not be able to tell the difference

I'll put up some pics as it progresses, my only concern is how to secure the main unit, but sure I'll sort that, need some wire to extend the 3 switches in the console, but again, should be an easy enough task with wire, soldering iron and heat shrink

I've been wondering how hard it would be to replace the UK heater controls with sti controls

I'll sort pics & description when done, probually early next week when IPod lead arrives

Just come in from garage, without the proper brackets it's a nightmare..................but it fits just don't want to push back into place to remove for IPod lead later lol
