Default Anyone relocated the head unit in their classic?

I seriously want to remove my heaters in the middle of MY95 Classic and relocate my head unit there.

Does anyone know if anyone has actually done this, as by looking at it I'll have to take the dash off and completely reroute the heater pipes.

Anyone any pictures or comments?

hi mate, i havent seen it done but u can get a gauge pod that replaces the vents , so i dont see much difference, altho it will be really tight and maybe not enough depth unless u cut away the heater pipes?

Yeah, i've been looking at that replacement panel.

I know i'll definitly have to cut away at the heater pipes but to get enough clearance i'll probably have to take the dash off.

Take the dash off, chop at the heater pipes, fibreglass a new channel, then pop the dash back on.

Just wondering if anyone's done this?

Is removing the dash very very difficult? Is there a quide anywhere?

errr do a search on here for 'dash' as there have been loads of removal guides, just been tryin to find how to remove the vents and came across a few. i dont know there the heater pipes enter the car but u could try and remove the parts in the center console and have a look at the back there, a bit less drastic and no chance of losing that all important screw everyone seems to lose

Ha ha ha, I know the one...

I'll have a look and post my results here. If it's not too difficult i might just do it as a fact find. Take some pictures without the dash on and take it from there...

I'm not afraid of fibreglass and the old filler.

It's not the front look i'm afraid of, it's the heater piping i'm going to struggle with but once it's done the rest is a piece of ****.

He says...

What guide did you use to remove the heater vents?

haha if the heater vents come in at the lower part of the dash u could always cut the pipe off at the bottom and run a pipe from that into the existing pipe that connects to the back of the air vents?
i didnt find a guide to do it, just a screwdriver and some force the far side ones have a clip and a lip , clip is on the inner facing side, just wedge a screwdriver in and eventually it will come lose, top ones again just pop out with a bit of welly

i've done 2 jobs that kind of incorporate what you may be after....
Relocated heater controls

no centre vents, they only give out cold air anyway which can only be good for your HU

Why do the centre vents only give out cold air?

When I have my heater set to hot, they give out hot air?

Both were done with fibreglass
they are 60mm gauges not 52mm like the milsport,
a little shaving to get them in but not noticeable even when we put the heater controls back in to make the 2nd version.

Hot air I blow to the windscreen only, it heats up the car in no time just in case sending it to the side vents allows any hot air to the back of the gauges

Eh, i'm confused lol. So you only have the dial set to 'windscreen' for your heaters?

if your using a millsport or other type heater vent dial system and your worried about heating your dials just heat your interior via the windscreen setting, unless you desperately need a hair dryer in your car directed to your face

Ha ha ha, thought you'd modded them somehow so they only blew out cold air.

I was just gonna stick them to the footwells, that's how i normally heat the car
