Can I just say that if your steering wheel needs to be taken off to straighten up there are other problems....

If its got an airbag, disconnect everything first, then undo as normal but leave the nut on a couple of turns, then pull and jiggle till it comes loose.

If its not got an airbag, then undo as normal but leave the nut on a couple of turns, then pull and jiggle till it comes loose.

Failure to leave the nut on a couple of turns will result in a very bloody nose and possibly a trip to a&e.
Good luck.
