Heating control Bulbs for WRX
#1
Hello All
Have a MY94 WRX
The bulbs behind the three heating controls in the dash have blown.
They are a bulb with the top end encased in a small white circular plastic housing. Can't seem to find any anywhere.
Any ideas anybody
Ta
Steve
(All the other dash bulbs seem to be the standard dash bulbs you can get from a scooby dealer)

I have just riped my heater controls display apart to change the bulbs to super bright led's i also have changed all the dash bulbs as well it looks like the VW blue dash board now.
The bulbs in our controls are sub miniture T1 3/4 wedge x2
Have a look here at the dash as it is now excuse the photos!

The bulb is the same however the clear end is encased in a cream circular
plastic housing. At first I thought the bulb may pull out of this plastic
housing. On close inspection I am certain that the plastic housing and bulb
are one combined item. Which is strange I know!
P.S. You've done a lovely job on that dash. Looks very very good
Craft, thanks for the reply
I have several people looking for these bulbs down my way (Sussex). I also have a mate who is into import export in Japan (general stuff not usually cars). So if I find any before you I will get enough for the both of us with a couple of spares thrown in.
Will let you know price etc before.
If you in the meantime manage to get some count me in.
Does this sound like a good plan?
Lets keep each other posted
Cheers

Have you ever come across these weird bulbs before. Perhaps they are just in early WRXs??

Hi all -
One of mine as blown as well, the one behind the climate control, on a MY94 STI. Huxley, where did you source those Super Bright LED's from, as I'd be interested in doing something similiar to yours.
Any help on how to got that section of dashboard open to get to the bulbs would be useful as well, as I haven't actually got back there yet !

I will let you know about the Super bright bulbs,at the moment we are trying to get a good price on a bulk load of them, we should be able to get them in Blue Yellow Green Red White and they will be a straight swap for the old ones, i will keep you informed as and when.

Hello Huxley
Don't have a digital camera at the mo.
Craft has just posted two pics of the bulbs in question.
At first glance you would think that the bulb pulled out of the plastic housing. But as I said, the bulb and the plastic housing seem to be just one item. Thanks for the pics Craft, now everyone can see what we are banging on about.
BoxerFlat4 - Two screws hold the heating/climate control pannel on. They are located at the bottom of pannel. Two clips hold it on at the top. Once you're in. All fairly simple. Hope this helps.

Like the idea of the superbright LED's, but does anyone know where to get the coloured condoms from? Oh, and before I get bucketloads of sillies, I do mean the coloured caps for the bulbs, rather than the fun-balloons

Those ones at the bottom look about right. In the end, I did the same as you, and bought some from RS (for anyone else who wants some, go to http://rswww.com/)
They should arrive tomorrow, with a bit of luck
