where did you wire the unit on a classic

Here's mine, fitted in where the fake cupholder went.

A bit of plastic filing and sawing, (which won't be visible if I ever replace the cupholder), and it's held in by double sided pads similar to those used for numberplates.

i think you misunderstood the question,i meant where did you connect your wires too.

You should be able to get a permanent 12v & ignition live 12v from the radio wires.
For illumination I used the wire that powers the light around the cigarette lighter.
Earth on body.

As ticky says. Mine was wired from the hazards switch, which was exposed when I was fitting the unit in place. That gives permanent live. Switched live came from the radio, lighting from the cig lighter, and earth was run back to the battery.

A good tool for finding live feeds is a circuit tester. Mine was a couple of £ from a carshop, and consists of a brass body about the size of a pen, with a sharp point on one end to pierce insulation, and a longish lead on the other end, terminated in a crocodile clip to go to an earth.
