Default Fitting Genome STI gauges - help!!

Hi all, does anyone know of a 'how to' as I've just bought a second hand set of oil temp/pressure, water temp, and a completely seperate boost gauge; and I'm lost as to how to go about fitting them alltogether.

I think I have all the sensors and the control unit, but need a wiring diagram and advice about how to do it all...

Help!!

Cheers,

James

Mine are Defis, but fitting gauges follows two fairly simple routes: daisy chain, (Defi, HKS etc) and straightforward, (most others).

Looking at the REAR of the gauges, what connections do you have?

How many wires to each sensor?

Most gauges need the following:
1. Sensor input, (usually two wires, but could be one, might be a dedicated tiny plug, etc).
2. Switched power.....from something like the radio, only live when ignition is "on"
3. Lighting.....from the sidelights, so that the gauge lights up
4. An earth.........block 'em all together, and run one wire back to a ring connector at the battery.

My car DIDN'T have aircon, so all cables came through from the engine compartment via the rubber seal that is in place where the aircon goes, I just cut a cross shaped slit in it. Alternatively, look down on the driver's side under the brake cylinder, there is a similar one there, but harder to get at.

When running cables, an old wire coat hanger, straightened, is a good friend.

Also, have a look at www.chiark.co.uk.

If you get stuck, give me a shout.

I think it might only be the orange dash cars that have the quick connection behind the dash pod.

You might find it easier to wire them in the old fashioned way.

Nito's site has lots of useful information about fitting: http://www.defi-shop.co.uk/

Go to site map, when you click the link.

I wondered about that - but the gauges aren't orange coloured - surely they would match as a socket fit.

Supposedly the first owner of these gauges had them plugged in - on an STI8 UK

Is it not possible to approach him and ask? Not come across direct fitting Defis before, sorry.

Erm well yes and no. The car was that damaged STI8 on ebay, emailed the bloke asking if he wanted to sell the defis seperately. He said yes. He bought the car damaged from japan, but changed his mind and found a cheap Boxster instead.

He left a mate to take them off, I picked them up from his mate, who sort of explained it to me...but I'm crap with wiring...

Think I need a diagram or something...

Give Knowsely at Extreme scoobies a call. Him and Paul over there fit these all the time.

Mine is a JDM STI and has the orange dash and mine does just plug in.
I just do not think the UK cars are the same.

Yep you were correct. Got a mate to do the wiring - actually quite straight forward. The hardest part was routing the cabling from the sensors in the engine bay...
