Question STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT

I want to replace, the MOMO airbag wheel in a my 01 v7 sti. With something more sporty, as the MOMO is horrible. It needs to be compatable with my car, so i will probably need a boss if it is aftermarket. I have looked around but no joy so far.

Question

Pretty sure that about alls you can do is replace it with one off the STi 04 car, wehich may be better?

Your insurance may kick off if you take an airbag out.

I removed the airbag from MY97 and it made no difference to my insurance. Norwich Union Direct.

If you do a search on here there are routines that people use to ensure the airbag will not go off.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING IN ANYWAY IF YOU DO IT, IT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I just undid the bolts holding the the airbag bit into the steering wheel (one either side IIRC ) you need a special star shaped tool for this. The airbag module then pops out you then just unplug it. Then you can undo the bolt and remove the wheel.

Question

Scoobylav: so does your "airbag" warning light stay on all the time? And will your passenger airbag still work?

Those were the two things I was told would be a problem by a local Momo dealer, and they rather put me off doing it to mine.

Do you have any pics of yours with non-airbag wheel fitted?
You can mail 'em to me if you can't post 'em or don't want to, or I'll post 'em for you.
Thanks.

alcazar - Don't think I have a passenger airbag (MY97) Airbag light would stay on if there was a bulb there

I will look for a pic fitted but in the mean time here is a pic of the wheel i fitted
