Question My00 blue dash light conversion - switches?

Hi Folks

Im just in the process of converting my MY00 dash to the blue lights but I'm not 100% sure what the solution is for bulbs in the switches .

I have ordered the 5mm for behind the heater controls and speedo etc.. but what size and voltage do i need for the switch lights ( headlamp adjuster, headlight washer etc.. )?

- R these 3mm LED's? and are they 5 volt ( or 12 volt ) as standard on my car?
- Does anyone know a direct replacement pt # for blue ones from ultraleds that doesnt need a resistor or any modding? ( appreicate I might need to fit led to holder )

Or is it just easier to order some clear ones from a dealer and paint these blue ( using glass paint )?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers
Rich

Our local paint shop has the glass paint kits for £3.99 for about 10 pots of different colours.

I don't know anywhere that stocks the bulbs - I tried to make one using a the holder from a knacked bulb and an led but with no success

If you know anywhere that can supply the bulbs can you let me know?

I swapped the bulbs for the heater controls too but the leds just weren't powerful enough to illuminate the panel properly so I swapped mine back.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback on the led and holder - i did read your previus post on this and wondered the outcome.

I'll ring the dealer and find out if i can clear ones from them...probably cost a bomb knowing them.

I will let you know the score soon.

Cheers
Richard

Dealers can supply these in all sorts of colours , shapes and sizes 9guess this could be across different mk's ) but its a bit tricky as the bulbs can change from switch to switch potentially on each car - im gonna pop down at lunchtime and try and figure it out with them. will post later on

i have converted my dash to blue using some 10.4 - 15.8 v 30ma blue LEDs, havent seen them in the dark yet, but looks like they are gonna be too dim, and they dont seem to be lighting up the needles..

what LEDs did you use ??

cheers, alex..

same here - mine were pants all round ( heater & dash ) for my MY00 turbo so ripped them all out again and went back to green - i bought mine from ultraleds as per the threads on here...i think they were 5mm ultrabright(not). ..probably due to green backing on the dials filtering some of the blue light out. I spoke to the chap there and ask it they had any brighter ones or bulbs available and apparently some are being made now and may be available in a few weeks. I also gave up on the switches as most of the panels where the white icons/letters/numbers are coated in green paint on their underside....small OE bulbs painted blue just dont cut it all. Really disappointed after all the fiddling around ( center console mainly ) ..so not sure if i can be arsed to try again if new bulbs come out.
