It has puzzled me for sometime now about the electric window controls on the door cards.
When the cars illumination is put on, the window controls don't have any illumination, I have a MY93 WRX.
I was wondering if there are any Impreza models that have illuminating window controls, if so whay are they, if not, has anybody done anything to them to allow them to illuminate.
I am one of those lowlife smokers who gets feed up of pressing the wrong window switch in the dark.
Muddy.

Muddy,
My UK spec.turbo MY00 (and therefore I presume all of them) has the word "AUTO" illuminated on the button for the drivers window. It comes on with the ignition like the clock ie the headlights don't need to be on to illuminate it. Sounds like this could sort you out if the unit simply dropped in to the WRX.

Muddy,
I think the improved interior post MY99? has illuminated switches, but the design of switch and door lining is completley diffrent from yours.
I have had the same problem, but have found no cure.

The switches are exceptionally easy to remove - just gently lift the front of the switch mounting plate up and towards the front of the car

Cheers Fellas,
I'll have to look into it a bit more, haven't had the switches of yet, just thought I'd ask the question first.
Mine (I think!!) has Auto on the Drivers front window switch.
Boost II- you say that the UK scoobs have this Auto writing Illuminated, if so I might have a bulb out, in which case it's been blown since I bought the car. Or there may be a way to fit a bulb behind to illuminate it!!.
Will have to Investigate.
wrx.co.uk- If I find a solution I'll let you know.

Thanks for the detailed picture, but unfortunatly I have the early door cards and switches, so not much use to me I'm afraid!!!.
I have had the switches off before, when I did an ICE install but never really took any notice of them.
Will remove them when weather gets a bit better me thinks.
Craigamungos - door cards should fit, although I don't know off hand, electics should be the same as well I would have thought ( maybe connectors might be different, but not a big job to convert)

I changed my MY93 WRX interior for a UK96/97 (same style 'wing back' seats) leather interior including door cards. Although the window switches had the same connections (same plugs&sockets) the switches were different inside. Luckily i still had the WRX switches to put into the UK door cards.
So be careful.

When I had my 97MY I had exactly the same problem as you as the switches did not illuminate. I solved this by taking out the drivers side switch and drilling a small hole in the centre of the buttons and fitting a green LED. I wired this in to the power supply to the switches by soldered terminals. Job Done!!

Here is a picture of the door trim.
It's not good, it's the only one I have.
ScoobyDoo555 - If your pic is better pop it on here.
Greg115 - What!!! you drilled the front of the switch and attached a led???? so this is visible!!!.
Is there know way to drill from the rear of the switch and put a bulb, led inside the switch?? Or is this what you have done, and I have misunderstood your post!!!.
